I'm not sure if this is happening to other people. It may be just my old warhorse of a computer, but for me, at least:

1. The forums don't update (new threads made, new posts) when I refresh the page. It usually updates its current thread status on its own time.

2. Sometimes my account says I'm logged in and sometimes it's not.

Has anyone else been experiencing these problems? I'm currently using the Opera browser (used to use Firefox until one day it decided it wouldn't let me set Google as a search engine).

It is most likely your computer settings and how your computer handles cookies.

My computer accepts cookies fine...it's probably Opera's overall quirkiness with a lot of things. But I refuse to go back to Firefox (or, God forbid, IE).

Whats up with Firefox? I reckon it beats most browsers hands down.

I was using Crazy Browser for a while but went back to Firefox because it is a lot more reliable.

Most browsers may be true, but their are quite a few areas where Opera beats Firefox like Security.

If have the sameproblem on this site with Opera. Somehow Opera uses its cache to display the forum instant of requesting the new version of the site. You press the refresh button you get the new page.

Here's a couple of things that I've noticed with the forums. These are server-side, so it doesn't matter what browser you are using.

If you don't check the "remember me" box when logging in, your session will be dropped after a period of inactivity. If you're writing a particularly long post, then you have to log back in when you try to submit it. Your session may also be dropped randomly... Individually, it is a mild annoyance, and it helps to remember that your session is being secured this way, but when it happens five times in a row, it's enough to make you check that darned box, and hope that you remember to log out when you leave the computer.

If doing a 'search' function, such as looking at the new posts, that search is cached on the server side. (You'll get a link that looks like this: search.php?searchid=45220 ) If you press the refresh button, then you get the cached results of that search over again... You have to start a brand new search (or click the New Posts link) again in order to get updated information.

@Adam: Well, that's true about logging out after a while, but this even happens after I log in, like, a few minutes beforehand. And I'm not using search-I habitually refresh forums I'm on to see what's new in threads. Brutha mentioned Opera's cache, so I'll look into that, but the other forums I go to work fine.

Firefox still defaults to Google as a search engine for me, and I haven't noticed any caching problems. Had a bit of trouble with logins, but those don't appear to be happening anymore.
