Default Hello everyone: My first Post

First of all,
Hello 'Steve Pavlina Forum' users. I'm glad to finally be here.
I first found out about StevePavlina.com a while ago, my first encounter with this great website was the six-part series on self discipline: Self-Discipline

Since my first visit I have read many of Steve's articles and applied ideas and concepts to my own life. My favourite example of this is from 30th June to 11th July when I had to wake up at 5am to get a bus to get a train to university. Had I not read articles on becoming an early riser I would not have woken up with my alarm at 5am. Unfortunately I have since got back into a routine of waking up between 8 and 10 am and sometimes even waking up in the afternoon! This is something I will work on changing from tomorrow onwards.

I'll tell you a little bit about myself starting with my current status,

I am 18 years old, I am unemployed but preparing to go to university* in september. (* I think this is equivelent to college in some places however here the educational system starts from School then proceeds to college and then University)
This is a big thing for me and I recieved a lot of praise when I got the acceptance letter. I had left college and wanted to go into work but realised I had no life skills that could be translated into a workplace. A year later a lot of my friends are either finishing their first year in uni or finishing their last year in college.

I used to be under the impression that you had to have sparkling shiny qualifications from college to progress to university and that if you didn't pass everything with flying colours then university isn't the ideal option.

Right now I am taking part in a foundation course which allows people who have lost touch with their academic side to either get back into that mindset or for some people it is a second/third attempt at gaining a degree. If I pass, I will be studying Japanese* and TESOL***, which will open me up to many new paths. (**entirely from the beginning. *** Teaching english to speakers of other languages)

That brings me to my goals in life. I don't necessarrily want to spend my life teaching english though teaching is something I have sampled before, and enjoyed, as part of a peer mentoring system in highschool. I have thought about many ideas, such as publishing 'teach yourself english' books in japanese (Something that is likely to be a big market for a long time to come) but from various unconventional angles.

In my spare time I love to play guitar. I'm not great but it is highly relaxing (unless i'm learning soething new) but can be highly challenging. I only started taking this seriously since january this year (my new years resolution) and sometimes I feel a bit unmotivated by the fact for an instrumentalist this is a late start at 18.

Sorry for the long introduction but a lot has happened recently especially with getting into university which I am very proud of. I hope to make many new friends here.

Hi,

I just read your introduction after you have sent me a private message.
It is good to see that this forum is as alive as I hoped it would be.

I am really looking forward to this.

Hi Sabrefirst, thanks for joining!

Congrats on becoming an early riser, and on learning guitar. I don't think eighteen is a late start at all, but then again I'm 27 and I still want to learn.
