Smile Ut oh, Adam's wife is here...

Hey everyone! My name is Trina and I was suckered into joining by my husband, who is the moderator for the Spirituality, Consciousness and Awareness board. LOL. Actually, I asked him if I could join even though I am not that spiritually conscious or aware and he seemed excited about it so here I am!

A little bit about me... I am 28 years old, and I have been married to the biggest geek I know for almost 5 years now after only knowing him for less than 4 months. Marriage is a wonderful thing. I don't know if I would call myself an avid learner as much as a critic or a cynic. I don't question the meaning of life as much as I question politics and government. I don't believe in a higher power although I do believe that a lot of people think they are one. I am a former military wife, so I am very patriotic, but I also have a revolutionist streak in me. I want to make a difference in the world, but only if I can make a good one. Photography is my medium of choice, and I hope to one day make a career out of it. For the time being I am stuck in a very small town in Utah so taking photos for my own enjoyment, selling a few prints and booking a portrait session here and there is about of big a career as I have. Someday though, someday...

I really look forward to participating on here. I swear I hear the name Steve Pavlina about 50 times a day, and the words that preceded and follow the name are, for the most part, a bunch of gibberish, but I am here to learn and have some fun. So, nice to meet everyone!!

Awesome! I look forward to it! I love talking politics and phoography.

Oh, and really quickly... There is something I forgot to add. I am a full time nanny/other mother to my nephew William (Bill, Billy... 10 years old), and my nieces Angela (8 years old) and Ruby (6 years old). I will probably talk about them a LOT because I have been very involved in their daily lives and in raising them every since we moved to Utah to be closer to my sister-in-law after her divorce. I consider them as close to being my own kids as I can get without actually giving birth to my own kids!

Trina - my two favorite things to talk about are politics and photography! Lol. I do have my own part-time commercial photography business located here if you want to check it out:

www.kevin-geary.com

If you ever have any questions regarding the business or photography itself please let me know, I love to converse with people on both topics! Welcome!

I took a look at your site and it is AMAZING!! I hope one day to be even close to the level you are at. I have only been doing this photography thing seriously for a few years and haven't had the opportunity to do any studio work at all. My life is pretty mundane so I have to search for photos a lot of the time. So, for right now it's just for fun. I do have a few sites where you can check out some of my more recent photo's. It's nothing impressive, and I accidentally let my Flickr subscription expire and haven't renewed yet and they deleted al lot of my older photos. Most of the stuff on there now is just ordinary everyday snapshots. Feel free to take a look though!

I do have a few photography questions for you, just out of curiosity. What camera do you use and who editing program so you use? I have a Canon 20D given to me as a present by my father-in-law last year and although I know I am not getting everything I could out of it, I LOVE it and really want to upgrade when I can afford it. Also, I use PSP X the most right now, but I have a copy of CS2 I haven't quite mastered.

I am so excited there are other people on here that are into photography!! On the military wives websites I am on the girls who are into photography always turn it into such a competition that it's hard to chat with them about it.

Kevin those are some great photographs.

I just got myself a 300D, it's kinda whack, but I'm learning on it. I've been doing graphic design and using PS since version 6, so it was only natural for me to venture into photography.

Nice to see other photographers and creative folks here.

Oh, and welcome Trina

I took a look - you have some great work there! You have the eye for it most definately. BTW, none of my pictures have been shot in a studio.

I am currently using a Canon 30D. Don't worry about upgrading for a while, there is really no next step for you unless you want to go to a 5d which is in the 3 grand range.

I use CS2 - it is simply the best program on the market in my opinion - not to mention the fact that it has its own RAW converter.

Thank you.

The camera isn't as important as the photographer, that is all you have to remember. You can do a lot with the 300D. If you are going to upgrade I highly recommend the 30D - it will give you everything you need without killing your wallet.

Thank you! That is very nice of you to say. I like to think I have an eye for it since I love it so much, but refining my technique and exploring my personal style is a bit more difficult. It gives me hope to know that none of your stuff has been shot in a studio. I absolutely adore natural light so I haven't had much of a need to find a way to use a studio. Problem is that I live in a basement apartment and have little to no light down here except for yellow ugly lightbulb light. LOL.

I need to learn to master my CS2. I have only had it for a few weeks and haven't had a chance to really sit down and explore it yet. I have done a little bit of shooting in RAW and liked what I got from it, but again, not enough time. LOL. Do you use any special plug-ins with your CS2? I have a few brushes that I have downloaded, but nothing special!

3 plugins...

lucis art
neat image
virtual photographer

I rarely ever use virtual photographer but I got it free so it is there. Neat image is a must. Lucis art is great but it only really has one useful feature. CS2 can do almost anything you need.

Hi Trina,

I just joined the forum myself, on Adam's invitation. This looks like it's going to be great!

I have four children, and I know I'll be talking about them a lot. I think if Steve's site has a weakness, it's that there' s not much advice there about working with children. Obviously, I'm even more concerned with their personal development than I am with my own. I wonder if anyone else out there has kids?

I have five teenageroess. Does that count?

One lives with his mother-I'm step-mom there, but the others are mine. One is on her own-kicked out of the nest so she could see that she was ready to fly, and it doing great! The next one decided she was ready herself, and chose to spend her senior year of high school on study abroad. She made it happen herself, and is mostly enjoying the experiences in Hungary. (The language is still a bit of a challenge- and she's frustrated by the difficulty involved in philosophical conversations across the languages.) The youngest two, still home, are twins, and mostly wonderful.

Overall, I think they're turning out well-thoughtful, considerate, and empowered-like the younger members of the community here.
