Is anyone here familiar of a school of thought called Transhumanism? It's a kind of thinking that sees the contemporary human being as something that can, should and will be improved with the help of advanced technology, probably already during this century. In other words, the homo sapiens sapiens we are familiar with, is not seen as an ending point of evolution, but rather a promising seed for something even greater, more developed and sophisticated. I accidentally found articles about transhumanism in early 2005, and they really resonated with me because I've always been interested in technology and the future. And I guess implementing transhumanist thoughts opened my mind for this whole field of personal development which I discovered in late 2005. What are your thoughts on this kind of a possible future? At least I find it inspiring (and congruent with personal improvement) to think that I might represent one of the last generations consisting of merely flesh and bones. It makes me wanting to strive for better, to be more human, less animal, more developed, less Neanderthal. |
