| Hi everyone! My name is Susan and I am from the L.A. area. I just returned to college after a long break and have decided to surround myself with smart people, hoping for osmosis. Thanks for having me! |
| |||
| College? Nice! What do you study? Welcome, btw!

| I'm not quite sure what I would do with it.. (now that doesn't sound too smart) The courses cover Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Publishing, etc. I love pretty much everything to do with computers, so at least it would document my background and knowledge. |

| That's great! And tricky too. You don't have to worry about not knowing exactly the details. I take it you have time to decide?

| At least 6 months, if not more. That's why I'm taking care of the general education courses first. |

| Thank you very much |

| Hey Susan, I live near the LA area in Orange County, Tustin. I am heavily into Information Security. If you get into computers, make sure you pick a part of it that which you know will not be moved off shore. Security is where it is at :P |
| |||
| I'm in the Santa Clarita area. Thanks for the advice Rivelli. What exactly is information security? Is it something like guarding against hacking? Or is it more in the area of personal information security as in identity theft? |
| |||
| those are all semantics. most of the terms all mean the same thing. Though it really doesn't mean it, the term Hacker is usually known for the Bad guys and because of that, there logically has to be a good side as well, usually Information Security Professional is used. Security is a huge term and has many choices to specialize in. I couldn't list all the combinations but it boils down to keeping something safe digitally just as you keep money in the bank vault safe. The right information stolen can be used for identity theft as you mentioned. You could simulate a guard or simulate a hacker by getting into penetration testing which is simply a security audit that companies pay for. There are many choices. The reason security specifically is the way to go is because the security guys get the most money, and wont have to worry about people in India taking their jobs away if your good enough. It takes dedication, I wont lie but if you do pick Computer Science, then go the security route as it is the smart thing to do |

| Good advice, thank you Rivelli. If I do go into Information Technology, I will need to keep outsourcing in mind. |
