After being here from the beginning (what a few weeks now?), I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the quality of people and posts on this forum! I was a bit skeptical at first with so many "kids" hanging out here, but the college students and young adults here could (and do) run circles around me for their intelligence, thoughtfulness, maturity and wisdom. I can't believe that people so young can know so much. It's actually kind of scary! I think we have a lot of "old souls" around here! I am truly humbled to hang out here with all of you. |

Only intelligent people could get anything out of this forum. Normal people just look at us like where the idiots! Ha I'm only 15 and people think I'm an adult (I am not, just a teen) So yeah, also I am a boy. Some people think I'm a girl... P.S/ Sorry about the incongruency between the sentences, I Am in a weird mood today! Last edited by Akashic_Librarian; 11-26-2006 at 09:23 AM. Reason: Because... |

I have to concur, I am very impressed as well! I always feel I'm very mature for my age and I get along with "adults" much easier than peers, but I see some even younger people in here and it makes me feel even more old. |

For me, it makes me see that my exceptional children, are not all that exceptional afterall...which again is a humbling thing to note! I was thinking of pointing my kids here, but I'm not sure I want to share this place with them! |

I was thinking about this phenomenon the other day, after coming across a weblog of 18yr old CEO Ben Casnocha, and figure that all of this is thanks to our much beloved internet. The availability of information is so vastly different now from what it was only just 10 years ago, and people seem to be able to grow beyond the status quo in their immediate environment more quickly because of it. Teenagers today have access to a much wider context than before, and all of this also means that there is a much greater potential for social mobility. Which, I suppose, is something that was available before through reading books, but now the access to books has been made easier and more immediate. So you could say that the internet merely accelerates either growth or decline, like any other technology (i.e. print having brought us both wisdom and pornography). Which means we now have both more 18 year old CEOs, and also more 18 year old online entertainment addicts etc. |
