Hey everyone, Just wanted to post a quick note to say hello. I'm approaching a transition point in my life as I'm about to graduate from college with a computer science degree, and I'm trying to prepare now for the kind of post-college life I want to live by setting some specific goals. I guess the end result is more important than the goals, perhaps... I'd like to spend some time after college traveling internationally, doing consulting work to support myself wherever I am. I don't think I'd be ready to do that if my flight to wherever left tomorrow, so I'm going to try and spend the next few months preparing for that kind of lifestyle. My goals are to get better at making friends (if I don't, traveling would get pretty boring pretty quickly I think), to learn another language so I can function better in more places, and to start building up a business that can support me as I travel. I believe just about everyone here can identify with at least one or two of these, so I'm hoping this will be a place where I can get some good support and feedback. Always looking for ideas on how to live a more fulfilling and effective life! - Eric

Hey Eric, welcome to the forums! Congrats on the impending graduation. Are you going to continue programming? What languages do you like? The traveling idea sounds fun. The four hour workweek by Tim Ferris might be a good book to pick up if you haven't read it already.

Definitely going to continue programming; I've known it's what I want to do since early elementary school. I tend to enjoy scripting languages the most. I've been working my way through school as a part-time Java developer for the past 3+ years, so not always a lot of opportunity to do scripting... But I always jumped at the chance to work on JavaScript tasks. Python and Ruby are where I want to direct my focus in the near future. Thanks for the recommendation, I've noticed in my blog browsing that I've been running across the Four Hour Workweek blog quite a bit recently. I'll definitely have to check out the book.
