| I've been an avid reader of Steve's work for several years now. I can't even remember anymore how I found this site. I broke down and joined the forums when Steve wrote something that I wholeheartedly disagreed with and I felt compelled to say something. It turns out somebody else had already said almost exactly what I wanted to, so I didn't have to post anything! For what it's worth, I'm an analytical type person, being an engineer. In fact, I'm a "systems" engineer, which means I look at complex systems as a whole, not just singular aspects. I look for interactions that other people with more narrow scope don't. I find I do this for lots of systems (political, economic, biological,) not just computer or software systems. I believe if more people took a "systems approach" to their decision making, the world would be a better place. Love the site, even when I disagree. Hopefully I'll love the forums too. |

| I'm with ya. People need to look at the big picture more. It seems that fear mongering has become so prevalent in Western culture that its really put people into this state of basing their decisions solely on their own present moment security, which in turn leads to them making decisions without thinking clearly about the long term consequences, which in turn creates more fear and insecurity, etc. Its a vicious cycle. There is a line of products called "Seventh Generation" founded on the idea of seven generation sustainability. Looking at the big picture I frequently wonder what we are creating for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the decisions we are make today? A Utopia, or a cautionary tale? Anyway, I digress. Welcome to the forums, yorik! |
