Question

I've been doing a lot of back-reading in the forums, mostly on the IM board, and have noticed that some of the most interesting discussions have banned members. I don't know if there are a lot of banned members or if it just seems that way because these are the topics I've been interested in and keep running across the same ones . . . can anyone tell me the reasons members get banned from the forums? I haven't seen anything that would answer this question, while reading postings from these people, right up until their last postings. Then *poof* they are gone, and as a newbie here, I wanted to mention that it gets disappointing when reading intelligent and thought-provoking postings, then looking up to see who the member is, and so often seeing the word 'banned.'

There is actually another thread on this that answers your questions entitled, "How to get banned". In fact, if you are reading this now, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the link under "Similar Threads".

Thank you!

The vast majority of banning is for spamming. But for long-term members, it's usually because they lost their cool and started making personal attacks, derailing threads, and/or trolling AND they ignored warnings from moderators to stop.

In a nutshell members find themselves banned when they start doing things that degrade the quality of the forums for everyone else and don't stop when it's brought to their attention. When a long-term member gets banned, it's pretty rare they'd be surprised by it.

FYI the forum rules are posted here:

Hope this helps.
