| j0, my name is Mike. I'm 17 years old, and, well, I've decided that I finally want to get up out of my chair and do something :P I'm about 5'8'' at everywhere from 170 to 180 pounds. Yeah, I know, that's not THAT overweight, if at all -- but my career choice begs to differ. I'm preparing myself to go into the military, hopefully Special Forces. So... needless to say, I need to get my butt going. My goal is to reach a BMI of around 25, maybe a little less. This would mean that I want to get down to around 155-160. However, shedding ANY weight is VERY difficult for me. As is gaining weight; it's quite confusing. I flutter between the same 5 pound increment, but never seem to go above or below. I've never really done any real exercise programs or diets or anything, so I'm a little bit more than just inexperienced :P However, the weight loss isn't the most important thing to me --- I need to work on my physical fitness. Right now, my average 1 1/2 mile time is about 14:30, my average sit-ups in two minutes is 40, average push-ups in 2 minutes is around 20 (I can't really do more than that, I drop to the floor), and I can do one single, glorious pull up. My goal is to become a Navy SEAL. Yeah, that's a LONG ways away, hopefully. Four years of college to prepare. I need to get my 1 1/2 mile time down under 10 minutes (hopefully to 9 or less), my sit-ups to over 100, push-ups to over 100, and around 20-25 dead hang pull ups with palms facing AWAY from me. Oh yes, and did I mention that I need to be able to run 4 miles continuously at about a 7 minute pace? Needless to say, that's going to take a LOT of work. But I believe that I'm finally ready to do this and that I can do it. I'm giving myself two full years to reach my goals. I think that this is a reasonable amount of time... of course, I might be wrong :P So... yeah! That's my little contribution. |

| Hey Lynx, welcome to the forums and good luck with your fitness goals! Right off, my advice for the weight issue would be to stop eating anything with Corn Syrup in it. Hope this helps!
