This is a thread about Sacha Baron Cohen's new movie. Who is going? Has anyone else been excited for its release? It's supposed to be mind numbingly funny. This suit is NOT black. pfft... Opinions? |

He was on the Daily Show last night, it was pretty funny. Jon Stewart used some sort of Jewish word and Borat got all weirded out and wouldn't let Jon get too close to him, I guess Jews are contagious in Kazakhstan.

I'm wondering if he ever actually got beat up or arrested while filming the movie. I'd be surprised if he didn't. Thad

Borat is a disgrace, or rather Sacha Baron-Cohen is a disgrace because it's basically a Jewish man falsely parodying Asian Muslims and i think if a Muslim man were to parody Israeli Jews in a ridiculous perverted and disgusting manner through popular culture, you would have the ADL and world Jewry up in Arms and screaming "Anti-Semitism! Anti-Semitism!" It's an abomination that he gets away with it, even Jewish groups have condemned him. |

i'm in total agreement with Thad. All of this finger pointing of if X did this, then Y would denounce them is just so childish. Get overyourself; figure out that all of your mannerisms that you take for granted probably look very funny to outsiders. Borat exploits these idiosynchrosies, and leaves no one left unscathed. Isn't humiliation funny when it's everyone is included? ;-)

I can't wait to see it. I've seen some clips on You Tube (DO see the Borat on Conan clip...HIGH FIVE!) Aside, Check out Thank You for Smoking. Great parody.

I waited for this movie for a year. With the use of the LOA my buddy and I hooked up pre-screening tickets for the movie. I was exited for the whole week while waiting for the day to go see it. I think it's the best movie of all times. It's even funnier for me, because I am from xUSSR myself (not from KZ, but I do understand the culture). |

I think the movie was helarious. Even during parts where he seems to take it too far, you're slightly schocked at what he's doing, but at the same time laughing your ass off. As long as you don't take it too seriously, I don't see how the movie should offend anyone specifically.

hehehe That movie was funny. I thought he had a lot of balls to do what he did in that movie. Especially when he was saying that Kazakhstan was the greatest country in the world in front of thousands of Americans and he was getting booed. Imagine what he was going through that night. hehe

Of course, they berated the mighty Monty Python (all kneel), for The Life of Brian...which took the micky out of Christian behaviour, not Christianity itself....but Christians still couldn't see it. For modern day read some of Adrian Plass stuff...especially the scared diary...and you will see how silly Christians can be....he himself is a Christian. Haven't seen the Borat film yet, but the hullabalu from Americans who were in it, wow...of course they can't see that it was their behaviour he was ridiculling....they never will...and I believe some are actually trying to sue the film makers. I found it hilarious but.... On one hand he put a mirror infront of American society, and it wasn't a pretty one. Many Racists, Chauvinists, Antisemites and Ignorant people out there, and I think its important to uncover this ugly side and see it for what it is- too much Ignorance and Apathy. But on the other hand sometimes he took it too far, He really hurt some people in that film, offended a wife infront of her husband- which is terrible- who knows what the implications of such a joke are, I know for instance that the manager the local live TV show lost her job after Borat caused a scene on the show. I find it wrong to not take responsibilty for those who help you on your road to sucsess. I think its OK if he shows a group of people acting unmoraly, but to hurt people just for the sake of it, especially in such a public format, is terrible. |
