Just wondering how many of you all are into computer games, I've been playing since I was old enough to comprehend what was going on in them! I'm mainly into flight simulators and wargames (strategic and tactical level old fashioned brain-workout wargames- when people call stuff like Command and Conquer or Counterstrike "wargames" it makes my head almost explode I know of a bunch of great free (downloadable and legal, not java) games online and also some great independent game companies to check out that are kind of under the radar, so if anyone's interested here I'll stick them up in this forum. |

| I've never liked the online RPGs much (Neverwinter Nights online was actually fun, unlike the single player game)... I played Everquest way back when it came out for a week or so, but after that realized I was really playing it just out of compulsion and the game itself really wasn't fun at all, just something you felt like you needed to do because it was there and you paid for it.

I'm a video game player since late 70's! Here in Brazil we had the Telejogo ("telegame"), a 3 games console with amazing graphics! ![]() Since 2003 I have a playstation 2. I love action/adventures like Prince of Persia, God of War, Splinter Cell, Psi Ops, ICO, Shadow of Colossus... |

*stands up* My name is Mark Lapierre and I'm a computer-game-oholic. I started with Buck Rogers XXVC, the TSR Inc. game in the style of their Gold Box Forgotten Realms games, but in a sci-fi rather than fantasy setting. Talk about addicted! I must have played Countdown to Doomsday and Matrix Cubed all the way through dozens of times... And Carl's right, don't play World of Warcraft. Just don't. (but if you do, come find me on Black Dragonflight) |

Strategy games like the good old starcraft, WC III, Medieval Total war and the like are all my personal favorite in school years. I rarely play "core" computer games now as there tend to reduce my work productivity and also interfere with my sleeping cycle. I've heard Starcraft 2 is in the making ...... How in the world woudl i be able to resist the temptation when the game is released. The is the game that i did LAN overnight with buddies on a regular basis in olden days. GameTrailers.com - Starcraft II (PC) - Media, News, Reviews, Previews I agree with Mark, Dont play MMORPGs like World of warcraft if you are tied up by a great job, wife, children, house loan and etc . It's like a cyber drug ....... Last edited by escapee; 06-19-2007 at 07:01 AM. |

MMORPGs are an extension of social interaction combined with a hefty dose of effort-reward. They're great fun...but as escapee said, if you have a busy life, don't play them. While you miss out on meeting a lot of interesting people, you won't miss out on important things in your offline life. If you want an interesting game, try Fastcrawl. Google it, since I can't remember the URL offhand. |

Sorry for ignoring my own thread here, I've been away from forums for too long! I'll post up some links to some interesting free games over this weekend... I'm not a big fan of mindless entertainment, most of the games I enjoy are insightful in one way or another, and I'd like to share that fun with the rest of you who are interested. I've got plenty to do over the next few days but will put up some links/info in my spare time.

I love Medieval: Total War, and a recent "mod" (meaning "modification", kind of a game-term for a total overhaul of an existing game for those who don't know) for the later Rome TW is at Europa Barbarorum. This makes what was IMO a pretty awful game out of the box into a classic for me! Edit: Er, already posted this before. Please see my post about having "too much coffee and cabernet this evening" on another thread here to explain my double post of this mod. Last edited by mlc82; 07-14-2007 at 12:53 AM. | |

Here are quite a few, for those of you who liked older Sierra/Lucasart "adventure" games such as King's Quest and Day of the Tentacle... Fully Ramblomatic.com - Come and play with us. For ever. And ever. And ever. 5 Days a Stranger was fun, going to start 7 days, the sequel soon. These are free and fun puzzler time killers! |

Also a free classic WWII wargame, a remake of "Steel Panthers". The last few links for SP WAW (Steel Panthers, World at War) 8.20 FULL are free downloads of the whole game! The "General's Edition" is the one that's for sale, includes some added campaigns and etc, however the free one is a great classic wargame, and was Matrixgames' entry into the wargaming genre. I really do recommend this one, it's a classic that's been around for quite some time. Matrix Games - Steel Panthers: World at War - Generals Edition - Downloads |

Another freebie from Matrixgames, this is a direct download link: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/forlib...eedownload.zip This one is "1848", here's some info: Free Computer War and Strategy Games - 1848. They made a later game called "For Liberty" about the US Revolutionary War, and this one was a free full game used to show off the system in a setting which most of us have probably never heard of, the "1848 War of Independence in Hungaria". |

| Haha I agree, I really don't like RTS games outside of the "Total War" series, the older Close Combat games, and the really old classics such as Warcraft II, back when the genre was still somewhat new. What kind of games do you enjoy?
