Default London 2012 logo

What do you think of the new London 2012 Olympic logo?

London 2012 - Home

Not worth £400k in my opinion but at least as a designer I recognise that while prestigeous, designing a logo for such an event is frought with difficulties.

Prompted by a feature in our local paper I knocked up the following in about half an hour one lunchtime last week.

While not as bright as the current and other designs it does acknowledge the heritage of the country by using the iconic architecture of Big Ben in gold. The font was chosen as it is classic in style and gives the impression of movement and vibrancy of youth which is highlighted by the colours used in the Olympic rings on the edges of the text.

This design is perhaps not ideal for reproduction on a smaller scale or on different materials such as fabric, metal and plastics but I still think has a strong visual impact that more closely represents peoples perceptions when thinking of London.

(What a load of trash - no wonder I work in marketing!)

Well, at least your logo is legible and does not produce seizures in epileptics. Personally, I think the 'official' logo looks as if the design committee was trying way to hard to be 'hip' and wound up making a mess of things. The problem is, that since it was released as the 'official' logo, it's too late to change now. Doing so would be an admission that the first logo was a train wreck.

I don't understand how come a logo can cost 400,000 pounds...
Tuumble, is your hourly pay more than £800k right now that you'e not a designer?

The official logo looks like a £400k turd IMHO.

I like yours much better, Tuumble.

400K??????????? Good grief!!!

And apparantly, the short promo film that goes with it, cause problems for people who are prone to epilectic fits.

Well, wasn't that money well spent.

What did the Dome cost again?

I never got to watch it which is just as well as I have petit mal which is a mild form of epilepsy.

Montreal may still be paying for the 1976 Olympics - methinks we Brits will be paying come the 22nd century and beyond at the current rate of expenditure.

Tuumble, I would pick your logo.

The other one has no heart. It does nothing for me (except kind of hurt my eyes).

They should have given you the £400k!
