![]() I know it's not particularly happy, but it is a very powerful reminder for me of how I must value this life and become the best person I can be. And in case you don't know what the picture is, the man burning is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who sacrificed his life to protest against the oppressive government during the Vietnam War. He meditated for several weeks in preparation and eyewitness said that he did not move a muscle as he was burning. He simply died peacefully and dropped over when he died. Amazing. |

| GASP!!! I heard about the monk burning himself but I didn't have much details. Seems like the universe wants me to see it here. Thanks for sharing, Lin. It's definitely a powerful statement that you are capable of whatever you want to do. And this monk has simply reached the level where body pain will not affect his peaceful state of mind. Marvellous. |

| Some of the most profound images I have ever seen are from James Natchwey. Here is one of his photo essays from Time magazine... TIME Photo Essay | The Congo's Hidden Killers He has taken photos all over the world though.

| What would you burn yourself alive for/over? THAT kind of commitment is the real beauty of that picture. Stephen Power-Book Library: Free personal development, success, inspiration and motivational classics |

| Take a look at this one: A moment of truth (2003-07-082) on Flickr - Photo Sharing! ![]() "...This is one of the most interesting things I've seen in life and surely one of the greatest moments I have ever experienced... I still can't believe it may be true. It's a plastic ice-cream bag being swirled by the water spring. You can see drops of water smashed in the air. The plastic bag is not going to fall or jump off! It's in perfect balance being guided by water stem. The bag slowly goes up and down, up and down, and constantly swirling too fast. And this motion never ends! I stood still and watched it for several minutes, made a few shots and even caught a video. It felt like God was playing macro physics in nature. A never-ending harmony of motion. Plastic bag and water spring are dancing in the air. And water drops are tangentially smashing around by this balanced circular motion. God plays balance. A point of truth. A point of equilibrium. Forever..."
