I for one - echo goldie's concerns. The internet is full of platforms for inane crap such as this thread and I've encountered on far too many other occasions on this forum. It seems even under the pretense of 'personal development', the egoistic whims at a level "lowest common denominator" are admired, supported.

For mine, it all speaks volumes - really being indicative of a celebration of the symptoms of the sickness rather than any (despite the forum name) attempt at cure. In turn anyone proposing a recipe for cure, sadly appears to be fully open to receive as much ridicule, derision as a mundane inanity is inclined to throw.

So how about we now either make an attempt to get real or cut the pretense?

I dont see it as attention-seeking. Nor do I see it as spamming. In itself, the question in the thread is legit, even though one of its pointers may be to reach a goal of crunching numbers.

If your a 'smart person' you will move past the count and look deeper into the question it begs. But then, some can only stay in the shallow, some will wade to knee-deep, and others will take the plunge.

Hey nh....i'm happy to add to your count but I cant guarantee ill keep to the flow of the question, because even the question tends to open other doors for me.

OK well if I am forced into defending it ..... take this. The goal is to reach 1500 posts that is a valid goal and in keeping with the spirit of the forum. Sex sells so the use of the word masturbation appeals on a gross level to create interest same can be sai for ego. If nothing else this is an exercise in advertising. Ego is all about our emotions and seeks for only one thing - self glorification by whatever means presenting at any moment towards this end. This 'ego' is a symptom of the most common and deadly of human diseases, and what I regard as being the primary focus of a forum such as this - where self-development is supposedly being promoted.

So a thread boldly heralding an attitude of selfishness does appear to absolutely contrary to such improvement. On the other side of the coin, awareness of a disease presents as the first line of defence towards healing - which was the purpose of my post and the observations therein.

I think you and the other person who complained here have a wide variety of threads to choose from that don't present what you consider to be spam or trolling behavior, so why not seek those threads out instead of this one where you obviously don't have the same humor as the OP and the people participating here.

It's meant to be a light thread...not everything has to be so serious, and for someone to threaten leaving the entire forum over this, as goldie did, is just beyond ridiculous. If that's all it takes for you to want to leave, then it's probably not the right place for you here anyway, and frankly I'd prefer to only have people who do have a sense of humor here personally.

Learn how to take yourselves-and everything else- less seriously...that's part of Personal Development!

Actually, I think the whole world takes serious matters in a much-too jovial, relaxed, indeed even a derelict manner. I agree entirely, however 'taking yourself less seriously' and 'being 'light' is for mine, a little more than suggesting yourself as a hoplessly empty vessel, with little more to your consciousness than 'the lowest common denominator' in the terms proposed by this thread, in the vain hope that such approach will somehow turn around, providing some degree of 'personal development'.

Surely elucidate, taking yourself less seriously really needs to ride into the fortress on the back of the stalion of awareness rather than in the opposite direction on the back of the ass of dereliction, doesn't it?

I don't think that being aware requires one to be always so mature though. As I perceived it, this whole thread is supposed to be a joke, nothing more.

There was never any real aim towards personal development, just a bit of a piss take towards the ego wanting to garner as many posts as possible to stroke itself.

Making fun of the Ego in other words, and how it inflates with the number of people who view it's post and give rep and such as goes on on forums like this.

So you didn't find it to be your type of humor...then don't participate in it.

Some people really like 'ass dereliction' humor, and it doesn't mean they are somehow not as good as people who prefer to 'ride the stallion of awareness'.

As prone to avoiding ' serious spiritual ' conversations as I am. May I add this is simply my approach and it is an approach. My experience with the ego is that it takes itself as serious as a heart attack. Nonresistance and humour do far more to erode the egoic props than a so called cold, serious approach from what I have witnessed. That doesn't mean that a whimsical approach is twee and flippant...it just may be observed by others as being that. You go your way....I'll go mine.

Honestly when I read your OP I thought it was really clever. First of all, because you were completely right. As soon as I saw the words "masturbation" and "ego" I had to click on the thread. Then I did not reply just because I thought...oh jeez...he's so right. LOL.

I think it's a great social experiment. You're evaluating the human reaction to the two words combined and waiting to see if your hypothesis is correct.
