I'm just curious, but does anyone care that a cleaner cleaned away a work of modern art - thinking it was just dirty. Overzealous cleaner ruins £690,000 artwork that she thought was dirty | Art and design | The Guardian

I thought the story was funny and that the cleaner was just doing her job.

I thought was funny too, some great art is only considered great because other people have told us so, any idiot can recognize Art.

It just goes to show that art is in the eye of the beholder. But those sorts of sculptures, I can see how she may have mistaken it, although if she is working in an actual art museum, she might have at least asked someone first before assuming.

ooops.

I made a "work of Art" out of my garbage for a whole month once.

Had to throw it out after a while though.

Reminds me of Picasso. He once rented a house (in south france, I think) and during the holidays, drew sketches on the wall. The Landlord was furious and fined him to pay for the whitewash.

He must have hit himself when Picasso started to become famous. He could probably have cut the pieces of wall out, replaced them, and sold them at a hefty profit.

Re: the OP, nope, doesn't worry me at all. I think we need more overzealous cleaners. If I were a cleaning lady in a modern art museum, most of the "art" would go straight to the bin. Sweep first, ask questions later.

It is not clear if he ever realized his mistake. This is from Picasso's biography.
