Post your positive, feel-good music and write a few lines about it if you want to. Here are some of my positive tracks: Avril Lavigne - What The Hell - YouTube Now I know this one can be interpretted as being an "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" ("messing with your head", "I don't really care" etc) but the melody is so positive that I choose to interpret this in a positive way: living my dreams and not caring about what negative people might have to say about it. Avril Lavigne - Alice - YouTube This is a song about how you'll stand up after falling and survive even when facing difficulties. The melody is positive IMHO. Now, post yours! Descendents: Coolidge. I found this cassette used at a Karma Records store for $2 during the summer of 1991, right before I started high school (age 14). Prior to then, I was a diehard heavy metal kid (although I'd been digging the Ramones for about a year), yet no matter how much brooding, death-obsessed thrash metal I consumed, there was still a disconnect; if you'd asked me I would have denied it, but on some deep, buried level I knew this: I wasn't cool, and I wasn't ever really going to be cool, at least not in the typical high school way. That Descendents tape absolutely turned the Cosmos upside-down for me. These guys were nerds. The singer even wore glasses. The drummer was...well, let's just say he wasn't a real skinny dude. They weren't ashamed of their geekiness. I didn't totally untether from my bad metal kid haircut or Ozzy tapes for another year or so, but that summer afternoon was the Day I Became a Punk Rocker, and the beginning of my realization that it was okay to be a little bit off-kilter and spastic. In fact, it wasn't just okay, it was awesome. "You can only be a victim if you admit defeat" goes the song. That hit me like a ton of lead. I've had to relearn that lesson as an adult. |
