Quebec is nice. Some parts, like Old Quebec city, sort of remind me of Europe. The francophone culture is dominant in that province, which is quite the bit different from the rest of Canada. Or at least it seems that way to me; I don't speak French very well. Montreal is a awesome city to live in as you can get around without speaking much French. The transportation system amuses the hell out of me (there is something like 3 or 4 levels to the subway station! Yes, I know that I am weird). But the down town area (St. Catherines, St. Laurent etc) can be incredibly busy, and unless you are accustomed to high traffic, you might feel really claustrophobic. Some people like this though. I have an aunt from China and she complains that the rest of Canada is too quiet. By that, I suspect she means that most cities and other areas have a relatively low population density. I ended up hiding out in quiet areas of Montreal (cote de neiges) and inside churches while I was there. And the graveyard. I'm living in Edmonton right now (Alberta), which I prefer to Montreal as it is quieter and less crowded. Even the downtown area during rush hour isn't all that bad. The transportation system is really mediocre though. And it gets incredibly cold up here. If I have to walk, I end up wearing two or three layers of clothing to keep warm during the winter. There is no rent control either, which can make solo renting difficult if you don't have a stable, well paying job. And everything shuts so freakishly early. In Montreal, I was overcome with glee when I found out that there were 24/7 coffee shops. Everything here shuts around 10ish. So... I'm just rambling here basically... Is this the sort of thing you want to hear about? |

Well, I can't really compare Canada to America as I've never spent much time down in the States. Having universal health care is a bonus as the State will pay for almost everything except for eye care, dental care, medications and certain procedures not approved by Health Canada. Different provinces have better economies though. Ontario really relied upon the automotive industry, and when that went down the drain, the economy really faltered. That is partially the reason why I moved away from that province. Are you interested in moving to Canada if it is possible? |

Probably, though I don't know for certain. If you look up Immigration Canada on google, their website gives more details on the different routes you can take to obtain citizenship or to get a working/student visa. Its been quite awhile since I last looked at it. |

I'll do that...........If I ever wanted to move there, I'd try to find a low cost of living area as close to the Washington boarder as I could get. | |

British Columbia is supposedly really nice. Victoria has a lot of ethnic and cultural diversity as it is one of the top locations that first generation immigrants will go to (as well as Montreal and Toronto). I haven't been there though so I can't comment on it too much. I hear it is really populated though so I doubt I'd like it too much. British Columbia has a lot of nice geography though. The Rocky Mountains cut through the Eastern part of the province and Banff and Jasper national parks are located there. I would love to take a week off and just take photographs all day. Some of the islands off of the coast of BC look really nice too. Sometime in my life, I'd like to see a 'spirit' or 'ghost' bear - they live on one of the islands. If you go to Jasper, some areas will be crawling with mountain goats and bears. The goats are really cute. |

Opps. We cross posted. Actually, I think Victoria is close to the Washington border, but I hear it is really expensive to live there. I'd take that with a grain of salt though. What one person considers 'expensive' may not actually be all that expensive to another person.

I have lived in four different provinces and have worked all across Canada. Yup, I wouldn't trade in my Canadian passport for any other Vancouver is not cheap though. If you want cheap, head out east to our Maritimes provinces in the east coast. There is a lot of variety across the country so it depends on what you are looking for. However, Immigration Canada is going to crack down soon since the feeling is that there have been too much immigation abuse over the years. In many ways, Canada has been too easy of a country to get in and many have taken advantage of this. |
