Yup, every one of us skaters does, fall... But in CLASS
one of the 1st. things you practice is 'how to fall the right-way'
so as you least likely injure (you or anyone near you). - The other critical thing to remember is that it's dangerous to sit on the ice,
unless you like losing a hand, when meeting up with someone else's blades. - So the other thing you learn, is how to get UP ASAP

Classes are kewl, as you learn to progress incrementaly...
& have Fun doing so, as many 1000's of us skaters enjoy experiencing:
1. the Wonder of watching the Elite, execute their feats, & (tho we know that skating is Counter-intuitive to how we learned to walk & move), they are so Skilled in them, they make it appear AS IF it's 1st. nature.
&
2. the Excitement of practicing each baby-step, & after a zillion times of hit & miss, to finally experience the day when the 1st. A-HA moment shines thru & you are jumping (or at least i am) UP & down in sheer & utter JOY as you can hardly contain yourself, over each little success... I LOVE TO SKATE... PASSION IS EVERYTHING...

Ew! I almost learned this the hard way when I was younger. On one of the rarer occasions, I went to the local rink to skate and had fallen on the ice. I turned around on my butt only to see this women barrelling down in my direction and just lifted my hand in time to spare my poor little fingers.

I loved skating when I was younger too. There was this pond in a provincial park we would always go to and I adored just skating around looking at all the snow covering the trees and bushes. There was a nearby cabin that would sell hot cocoa.

Glad you had Fun! and I bet you too watched where you were going... lol

Well, when I was littl-er , I Snow-skied, did Gymnastics, & sprinted.
at almost 50, when i laced-up my 1st. pair of skates, & gingerly stepped on the ice...
and oh boy! dreams are vivid, goal-posts moving further ahead, & high hopes of achievement
Hot-cocoa is yummy too, tho usually I'm warm during practice...

I have this on-going LOVE-affair with LIFE... and can hardly wait to get back on the ice...

Do you skate professionally or just for the fun of it? I wouldn't mind skating again, but I don't know of any small ponds around here that would be suitable enough. I'm afraid that I would fall through the ice if I tried skating on a body of water that is too big. Icing rinks just aren't the same thing.

Have you tried tobogganing? Weee! So much fun! There use to be a tobogganing hill at the same provincial park I went to for skating, but last time I went, they had the hill closed off.

No, I like using my legs too much, & pretending I'm artistic, lol

Ha-ha, you're funny! - and I wish...
To skate 'prof', you have to command WAY MORE skills,
than I've got currently. I'm just a wee-little tyke,
learning basic-skills. - But
considering -when I started... the (cluelessly harmful
doctors claimed 4 times no less I would die ), &
I summarily-ignored & fired them), and then passed my 1st. 2 little ice-tests; &
have incrementally moved my goal-posts further..., I have come a looong way.
Not by official Skating-standards, but JUST me, family & Skating-friends.

I have never skated on a 'pond', only at the Arenas
so falling-Thru anything?. NO worries.

Smile

Fascinating personal discoveries are FUN:
John Lennon's song: "Imagine..."
to which my Favorite Figure-skater Sasha Cohen
skates: Sasha Cohen - "Imagine" - YouTube
is a 3-minute long Program. - Well, the 1st. program
of any skater is all of 60-seconds

So, by orchestrating this song just right, & given
the right Choreography, this could work for a Beginner too.
Yeah,
we'll just add this, to the other 100 Programs already in our head
