Default Post pictures of trees and birds

I'm posting these for Fed, but I figured I'd make them public just in case anyone else shares my enthusiasm for birds and trees. These are taken at my new place of residence and I absolutely adore where I am currently living. There are so many trees surrounding the house and neighbourhood. I haven't managed to get any pictures of the birds yet. I did have three crows cawing outside in my backyard today. Very lovely! I don’t understand why crows get such a negative rap in North America.

Quack

Fed: The last picture is Maya’s current favourite perch. She’ll just sit at the railing and stare down at us watching all of our movements.

I love crows! They are quite clever! I don't get why so many people dislike them either, I remember my grandpa telling me about a time where he shot a crow and its mate haunted him for a month, tapping at the window when he tried to sleep, cawing angrily from the trees when he stepped outside... I never understood why he shot the crow in the first place and when he told me that I lost a little bit of respect for him.

Yah, I love crows too. I can't help but lose a little respect for people who hunt animals just for the 'sport' of it.

In Western culture, crows seems to be used as a symbol for negative things. Like darkness and death (only in their negative function though - not something like rebirth, change, or facing one's shadow self). Some cultures, like the Haisla, see crows as a trickster figure, which I find more appealing. I saw this lovely Haisla art the other day at the carnival with a shaman dressed up as a raven. There was this big angry looking sun too. Unfortunately, it cost 800 dollars.

When it really comes down to it though, I just like listening to them and watching them. They always seem to travel in groups.

These are ancient trees from the Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland, Australia, where I intend to build my home and live. I have it as my screensaver, and it fills me with calm and wonder whenever I see it.

This is a very rare bird seen in the western parts of Sweden lately. Always found them very fascinating, the colors and the sounds they make...

Nice picture. I like the moss on the trees, which is something I haven't seen in some time. I miss seeing the moss and... those massive spider web looking things in the branches of trees... while walking through the woods.

Jon Tore: That's a horse!

Talking about rare birds, I've seen two types of birds I've never seen before since moving. I find that really interesting. I've noticed regional differences in the types of birds that show up, but I never expected I'd see different birds by simply crossing the river and living on the opposite side of the city. There are lots of squirrels here too, which I never saw at my old place.

And for good measure, a donkey! How can you not want to kiss his/her sweet little face?

Bounce.

Does anyone else like taking pictures during the night? I wish I had my camera with me tonight while we were out walking as I could have gotten some lovely pictures. I really need to get my self a tiny tripod for night photographs though. As it is now, I sort of lay in the dirt and hope for the best, which is fine and dandy while camping, but some people may find me peculiar doing that in the city.

It was pretty damn dark when I took this picture, so I'm just surprised that it turned out at all. It looks weird though. I had to fool around with the brightness in photo shop before I could see anything.

I'm absolutely convinced that this cloud looks like Aslan... Forget Jesus or Mary... Its Aslan! You can't get any cooler than that.
