hej, this is my very first post here so i'm courious who will anwser. in the last days, ive noticed that i need to take more time for recreation. since ive had a long half year of school and also had my own personal goals besides, it allways was a hard question of timemanagement. anyhow i'll have my vacation soon so when i noticed that i needed to take more and more efficient breaks, i started noticing that i don't know many routines or habits that serve recreation. i know alot of things that make me feel good, but it takes a lot of energy to do them. so i wanted to ask you what you are doing for recreation, that does almost cost no energy at all. |

hello spreadtheword, i've also been wondering about this kind of topic, how to have efficient recreational time - sounds strange, but there we are some things that i do to relax which cost almost no effort or energy are: making a cup of very nice tea sitting in the garden watching the O.C. (which is my guilty secret) meeting friends going to the beach/woods take a nap listen to some music it actually sounds a bit lame when you make a list like that, but actually i take a lot of pleasure in doing these things. my main recreational activity is qigong, which does actually take some energy and discipline to practice, but you get much more energy out of it than you put in, so that may be something to consider too! (cycling is also in this category, i guess) so have fun recreating, and remember not everything has to be efficient! |

that's strange - i'm living in germany at the moment too, although i'm from the UK originally. i've been to a few qigong classes i germany and i did find that qigong is taught a bit differently here (sometimes crappily yes! - but that is also the case in the uk). the attitude in germany (i'm exaggerating a bit!) is that you do a 12 week course in qigong and then you know qigong, which is of course not quite right. (i think 'volkshochschule' courses are a bit like this) but i have been to a very good teacher in stuttgart. i think it really depends of the teacher and their approach to teaching, as well as the particular qigong techniques or styles. probably the best thing is to go to many teachers to get a taste and then choose the one that strikes you as most suitable. i've decided for now that i will only go to courses with my teacher back in the uk and then practice that style of qigong by myself in germany. if you're interested have a look at this website which is about the style of qigong that i practice Tai chi, qigong and meditation |

You started the thread with easy recreation, if you are more interested in qugong or tai chi , you might also make a post on the sprit or psy. sec of this forum. I dont know about Germany , but in the USA many cities have new age book stores that have yoga and other classes. desert rat

are there many big different schools of qigong? those techniques are much about practising for oneself, arent they? where do you live in germany by the way?

it's very important with qigong to have a good teacher. after learning from a teacher then you should practice by yourself, of course. but i think learning without a teacher (from a book or dvd) is largely pointless because it's too subtle an art. p.s. i live in stuttgart, but only for two more months, then i'm moving back to the uk! where do you live?
