Default How much animals are intelligent

I just wonder how much of complete consciousness animals have, here is the video where two rabbits start to "fight" and all of a sudden two chickens come in to separate them and stand there until rabbits cool off and leave.

If you think in terms of LOC, most domesticated animals calibrate higher than 80% of the human population

Don't need any intelligence to love

Plus, humans ARE animals, but they like to pretend they're not because it makes them feel special

That video is definitely interesting. I have wondered if apes could learn how to knap flint, and apparently they can. I did notice during the video game segment (and the fire-lighting segment as well), that the ape was definitely being coached by her 'teacher'. I wonder if similar coaching was occuring while the bonobo was learning how to make a stone knife. I realize that the whole point of the program is to teach the Apes human culture, so of course the human teacher should try to facilitate learning in her students. It would be interesting to see some of the teaching techniques in more detail.

They did seem to imply in the video that they emphasize immersion over coaching or direct teaching. But I'm curious, too.

There's more info on bonobos here:

Bonobo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the beginning Savage says that they aren't a popular zoo animal because of their sexual habits, and if you look into it, they are ridiculously prosmiscuous, but highly complex habits, including felletio and even same-sex interactions. Talk about human-like.

The dogs I mind are often very intelligent

They hug and kiss me (well try to kiss me) just like people.

They come and sit in my lap.

They even cuddle me just like a person!

They will put their arms around me and litterally cuddle me!

I think it's because I treat them as if they were as intelligent as a person, talking to them just like a person. They seem to love that sort of respect.

Dogs enjoy dancing too!

This has happened with 2 or 3 dogs I've minded

I would dance to music, and they would come in
and they would get excited and joyful and jump up for me to hold their paws, and they would dance with me, and they were very happy doing this!!!

Except they would always mouth my hands as we were dancing, I don't know why. An expression of love?

We also have a new cat that just walked in from the street and decided that we would be the people to take care of it.

This cat loves hugs and cuddles too. (During which she turns into the Pur Engine)

I think Maybe their behavior is because I look beyond the species or the appearance or the breed and see them simply for their thoughts, feelings, and realness that they are (just like my thoughts, feelings, and realness).

omg these dogs I'm minding,

I said to one of them,

"What are you thinking?" Because she was staring at me.

Then I said, "I wish we could talk to eachother"

Then she started engaging in some sort of communication with another dog.

They were laying on the floor near eachother and both began groaning and moaning while continually rubbing the sides of their heads with their paws. They made a variety of different moaning and groaning noises, it was really like they were saying something to eachother!!!

Eventually they walked away from eachother.

It seemed like they were frustrated either that or some sort of affectionate bonding singing with eachother

Aawww, poor kitty & plant; she didn't have the *patience* to communicate with the plants?
so
she thought: Fine, I'll get its wisdom by eating it

One of the ted talks discusses crows and their ability to adapt to environmental needs using tools. Such as bending a paperclip into a makeshift hook to get food out of a tube. This is prior to any learning from other crows which completely eliminates any social learning construct.

There is also this idea that humans are the most intelligent of the species, which I find incredibly fallible. If anything we may be the least suited in terms of evolutionary intelligence because we do stupid things. Most of the environmental things around us that could kills us are of our own technology.

If you clearly define a species success on it's ability to survive and propagate we have created more problems and obstacles than any other species. Just to cite things like cigarettes, abudance of high caloric food, industrial hazards, etc. Most of these products all in the name of basic instinctual needs that have been "intellectualized" and morphed into other needs.

A person's need to have the right color curtains matching to the color of her room in the grand scheme of all things that are pertinent to survival is way down on the list. Yet you find people obsessing over extremely minute and useless details as a side effect of higher intelligence. People freak out if there is a dent on there car and some bring it to violence. But how important is a dent in your car with all things considered? Extremely useless. Imagine if a squirrel killed another squirrel because there was a scratch on his tree.

While we believe as a species we are intelligent, it's simply hubris to cover our deficits.

Well said. - and I shudder saying this, because -

God did say He made the stars, the sun, the moon, the earth &
ALL things inside & on it incldg. rocks & all life forms, &
then Get this-> created in God's LOVing image & likeness,
He gave "dominion over the whole earth to man"
First,
because He did not give them as many choices... but (lacking in imagination), truth be told,
within their abilities the plants & animals PRAISE God every day.
Already said so well by Ruby, they hug, snuggle, & kiss, & are compassionate dependable companions to a greater degree.

You realize because 'plants & animals' already acknowledge God as their Creator & Lord, they have no need to be saved.
They, already living according to God's Designs for them, exist therefore intelligent

I think all animals are intelligent in their own way with different abilities to each other. Humans are also animals as well that belong in the mammal group which is the same group where animals such as Cats and Pandas belong in. Also, Dolphins are just as inteliigent or possibly more intelligent than humans.
