| If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world. SEXY Wowzers. I think I know how to pronounce all those words. English is really hard. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get a few people with different accents reading this poem, and post it here? This is awesome! Thank you for sharing. I think if non-native can understand at least 75% of this (context and pronounciation) they'd be at par or better off than most natives. Total guess, though! There's a few I'd have to guess, but the meter and rhyme are good context clues. |

I don't have a microphone. Just imagine my voice. It is deep and sexy with a little purrrr behind it. Of course, I'll read the poem perfectly. Oh the other hand, I might just butchered the words and these 'things' Angelique referred to as 'meter' and 'rhyme'. And then curse a couple of times out of frustration |

No mic here either. I'm with you, Zephy, I'd probably go all King's Speech on it. If you can imagine a very animated teenage girl's voice.. I'm told that's what I sound like over the phone. That's probably how my mp3 would sound, too. |

Oh wow, I'm really interested in hearing our peers try to go through an entire recitation. If there is a demand for it, I'll accept e-mails with mp3s and upload each one as an audiobook-style video to YouTube. There has to be more than one or two takers though, this old desktop is temperamental and I took Avisynth off of it in April. Also, as I am very busy, it'd take about a week to steadily publish five, for instance. So, if you're about instant gratification, don't take me up on this offer. |

Alright, in an effort to not let this opportunity slip away, here are the details for getting your reading publicized as streaming media. After recording your recitation of "The Chaos," send it to the following email: poem.reading [at] gmail.com (a dedicated account for this venture). If I get three submissions or more, I'll create a YouTube channel and start posting these. I'd prefer MP3s, so please convert it if it is not the native format you record in, if you can. I'll accept other formats as a last resort. And, by all means, please voice your intent to record here with a post. But, actions do speak louder than words; if you chime in, send me a session file! I want to be able to post these! On a side-note, I kind of wanted this to be a contest of sorts. After we have a selection of orators to hear from, I wanted there to be a vote on who the forums' resident Elocution Expert is. Anyone game for this added dimension to this? What an absolute delight of a poem to read. It is examples like this which simply demand to be read aloud. I would love to make a recording but my USB mic is on the missing list. I might have to refer to dictionary.com for the pronunciation of a handful of the words, but it is helpful that some of the more tricky words come up at the end of lines, and thus you have their rhyming counterparts to help you out. Or was the idea not to practice or research the pronunciation, but just dive into it and give an initial and raw rendition? I'll see if I can locate a sutiable microphone and if so, will send on an mp3. I hope more people decide to make recordings! |

I just finished recording my effort in my friend's home studio. He's going to email it to me and then I'll forward it to Geo tonight or tomorrow. I have to own that I read through the poem a few times before recording it. Don't worry though I still make mistakes. I found the lines made up of fast-fire single words the most challenging. It would take an expert in my opinion to pronounce every word to perfection unless they had practiced it thoroughly. But, hey, maybe such an expert exists here! More submissions people. Come on! |
