Default Halfpast: Roy's Wesite

The time has arrived to present the address for my website. Pavlina members are welcome to visit and snoop around. This is what I've been doing in the past several months.

Some Pavlina members who are also on my forum chose to remain anonymous. Others you will recognise.

We're a small forum, and have opted to stay that way: this is why I asked that the URL not be given out. Halfpast members were hand-selected on the merits of their spirit, ability to get along well with any variant, and their contributions to mutual growth. We don't just approve anyone: members are screened for just such traits.

Some Pavlina invitees have declined the offer to join my forum, and I respect their choices, although I stipulated months ago that the invitation was unconditional, and there was no time limit.

Some have accused this approach as a "gated community". That is not the intention. The intention is to maintain a forum where cooperation and mutual respect is assured by sensitive members.

As Administrator, I don't approve just anyone at all, and it has been for this reason many have found a safe haven at Halfpast. Be advised that there are several threads inaccessible to the public, for the very reason of having a "safe place". None of our members have breached that trust, and because of the demeanor among them all, a breach is unlikely.

I am not interested in recruiting new members. However, should you decide you would fit in, after registering there, please send me a PM via the Pavlina forum. Again, this allows me to monitor who comes on board.

halfpast - Index

This thread can be used for discussion between forums, or to throw rotten tomatoes at me.

Default interesting find

As so often happens in THIS Indigo mind, I came across some unrelated fact that prompted the memory of something else...but there seems to be a connect.

In researching information about Blue Ray DVD, I came across this:
"The Blu-ray Disc is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the standard DVD format. It enables the recording, rewriting and play back of up to 25 gigabytes (GB) of data on a single sided single layer 12cm CD/DVD size disc using a 405nm blue-violet laser. It Blu-Ray gets its name from the type of laser it uses to read and write data from and to the disc, the color of the laser is a hue of blue-violet."

Which reminded me of this:

Are Humans Beings Of Light?

"There was another odd property of these compounds: each of the carcinogens reacted only to light at a specific frequency -- 380 nm (nanometres) in the ultra-violet range. Popp kept wondering why a cancer-causing substance would be a light scrambler. He began reading the scientific literature specifically about human biological reactions, and came across information about a phenomenon called 'photorepair'."

from the thread Cancer

continued...
Light, Color, Filter, Jos. Schneider Optische Werke tells us:
. Electromagnetic radiation

The total range of this radiation can be divided into radio waves, radar waves, heat rays, light rays, ultraviolet rays, X-rays and Gamma rays. All these rays obey the same laws despite the fact that they appear very different to human sensing systems and that technology requires the most various devices to master them. Electromagnetic waves can also spread in a vacuum. They are then at the same speed for all frequencies.

. Light

Electromagnetic radiation of varying intensity and wave-length capable of causing an impression of brightness and color in the human eye. Most light sources radiate mixed light, consisting of different light colors. The wave-length is used in optics to characterize these colors.

Light energy increases as wave-length decreases. Blue light has more energy than red light. The nature of light has not yet been explained exactly. The best explanation has been offered by the quantum theory: "Light consists of particles which often behave like a wave." Light as defined by photography is all radiation between 320 and 1050 nm. Outside these wave-lengths, special equipment such as quartz lenses and photon amplifiers necessary in order to create pictures.

Color

Color is the psychological response of the eye to electromagnetic radiation between 380 and 780 nm. Color sensing is operated via three different sensing systems for blue, green and red. Color film, color selection techniques and color television are based on the way the eye sees color for their theoretical construction.

Color chart

The color chart is a system based on standard light types and on the average human color feeling, allowing accurate placing of a color on a graph by means of numerical values. For better orientation, the light colors have been added in Fig. 1 as in the curve diagrams. Likewise, the names of many B+W filters can be found.

Light color Wave-length in
Nanometer nm

Ultraviolet A 320 to 370
Violet 370 to 410
Indigo-blue 410 to 430
Blue 430 to 480
Bluish-green 480 to 500
Green 500 to 540
Yellow-green 540 to 560
Yellow 560 to 580
Orange 580 to 610
Red 610 to 650
Dark red 650 to 780
Infrared A 780 to 1400

"Popp also knew that patients with xeroderma pigmentosum eventually die of skin cancer because their photorepair system can't repair solar damage. He was also struck by the fact that photorepair works most efficiently at 380 nm -- the same frequency that the cancer-causing compounds react to and scramble.

This was where Popp made his logical leap. If the carcinogens only react to this frequency, it must somehow be linked to photorepair. If so, this would mean that there must be some kind of light in the body responsible for photorepair. A compound must cause cancer because it permanently blocks this light and scrambles it, so photorepair can't work anymore. It seemed logical, but was it true?"

Quote:
In 2009, this wasn't really a website: it was an area51 where Opetero could experiment with Simple Machines Forum data and features. I think Simple Machines just GAVE it to him, they seem to have a good relationship. Opetero (Peter) does things with computers that just make me stare into the headlights and Homer Simpson-out.

There were only five of us, Lady Lilya (not around recently due to her newborn daughter) and Mugwort were about the only occasional visitors. I came out here to play. I could fool around with the various functions and see how they worked. This was the site where we tweaked the 'shout box' for Halfway, and other upgrades that were installed later that year on the main site.

One day Peter was out here, tinkering with some program, and asked if I'd like to see the Administrator's board. I was terrified.

He assured me "the walls are padded, no one will get hurt" so I went through the process of becoming one of the Administrators. Mind you, back then, I was on Windows 98 and still hadn't learned to copy-and-paste. Still in my computer infancy, I snooped around. There was only one or two boards, back then.

My history on Halfway is there for anyone to see; I make no excuses about my own ill-behavior. Much of what I learned from those experiences I have incorporated on Halfpast, and that includes my own behaving-myself.

I left Halfway, feeling rather set-up and framed. It sure looks that way. It doesn't matter: I'm not there, now. When I left, I deleted my account here, too, which meant ALL rights were surrendered.

At some point, after appropriate exchanges with Peter, I asked if I could resume Administrator privileges here, and if I could conduct a website at Halfpast. Cautiously he agreed. Neither Peter nor I are ones to hold ill-will against the other...we're very similar spirits...and relations have warmed again. (I recently got a thank-you from him for sending my DVD for him to watch.)

Figuring out how to build this site with virtually no assistance was a quantum leap in my computer abilities. I sure learned a ton from the experience, but it was trial and error to get things where they'd work right. I write this and think: my whole LIFE was self-taught, the same way I learned how to live in the forest after being raised in Los Angeles. Then I realise: wull, yeah, Beav, but you accomplished it!

Huh. So I did.

What a LUXURY to shrug and say "Huh. So I did." when in fact just months ago I was biting my nails, afraid to click commands for fear the Panama Canal would somehow explode.

Then there was inviting people.

How do I do THAT with diplomacy, discernment, and success?

And THEN...very few responded.

All of those days were so very different from the calm and knowing that's here, now. I needed to stop and take a look back. I really needed to give myself the time and acceptance that I have accomplished something I would never have taken on one year ago. I can only gauge its success by how much I have grown from and with the experience.

And here, on my 54th birthday, I sit in front of the screen, deeply grateful to see good people using the site. A community sharing and exchanging, hearts growing and the "unwanted" safe for the time being...long enough to become strong again, and go out into the world a changed person. A cocoon with processes of metamorphosis filling the air with smells and sound and feelings of change, shedding old, wondering about the new, and flapping newly-sprouted wings for the first time.

YOU members gave me that.

I merely had to have the courage to surmount my fears, learn as best I could, and ask you to be you

so I could be me

The site has been running iffy all day...very frustrating. This happens about twice a year, and SMF forums doesn't really say why except for the bandwidth we're on and who we're sharing it with.

I have registered Halfpast with Project Honey Pot. You can read about its virtues here or on the page below.
As you can see on "Rejected Registrants", we constantly have spammers trying to join the forum. A couple have slipped through and spammed the site. We also get "spiders" which are web-bots that pull information from the site, but potentially also lift e-mail addresses for whatever reasons...marketing or spying. One IP in particular I have monitored and its activities do not make sense, in some ways, so I'm looking into what is available to preserve the site's integrity. Project Honey Pot, in conjunction with StopArticlSpam are ways I can offer more protection to Halfpast members. My Administrator board as well has an IP tracker, which I use to determine where an IP address is coming from.
(IP=Internet Protocol) ["What Is An IP Number? What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address ]
ALL websites get spiders and spammers.
About Project Honey Pot

Project Honey Pot is the first and only distributed system for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from your website. Using the Project Honey Pot system you can install addresses that are custom-tagged to the time and IP address of a visitor to your site. If one of these addresses begins receiving email we not only can tell that the messages are spam, but also the exact moment when the address was harvested and the IP address that gathered it.
To participate in Project Honey Pot, webmasters need only install the Project Honey Pot software somewhere on their website. We handle the rest — automatically distributing addresses and receiving the mail they generate. As a result, we anticipate installing Project Honey Pot should not increase the traffic or load to your website.
We collate, process, and share the data generated by your site with you. We also work with law enforcement authorities to track down and prosecute spammers. Harvesting email addresses from websites is illegal under several anti-spam laws, and the data resulting from Project Honey Pot is critical for finding those breaking the law.
Additionally, we will periodically collate the email messages we receive and share the resulting corpus with anti-spam developers and researchers. The data participants in Project Honey Pot will help to build the next generation of anti-spam software.
Project Honey Pot was created by Unspam Technologies, Inc — an anti-spam company with the singular mission of helping design and enforce effective anti-spam laws. We are always looking to partner with top software developers and enforcement authorities. If there is some way we can help you fight spam, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The Web's Largest Community Tracking Online Fraud & Abuse | Project Honey Pot
___________
Anything to do with the internet is potentially dangerous, and a liberal-minded site like Halfpast may indeed be closely monitored by political groups and government agencies. (We seem to generate a lot of interest from Russia, Germany, Israel and the Ukraine). I can't do anything about that, but I can help make the site safer in regards to member's personal e-mail addresses and information to marketers and questionable organisations.
In the past, spammers' accounts were deleted, along with their advertisements or political messages. I now filter registrants through IP number websites to insure that potential members have no internet history of spam or spying. All political views are welcome as long as they are presented reasonably and amiably (though Halfpast is primarily a Spiritual website).
Even Project Honey Pot is no guarantee that it, itself, isn't a front organisation. As I've had to struggle with learning about computers and Administrator duties in a fairly rapid time, I take chances in hopes of erring on the side of caution, with the intention of protecting members as much as I am able to.

As I stated in the first post, I am not interested in recruiting new members, nor am I willing to take spill-over from when the Pavlina forums close their doors.

Those registering would do well to PM me so I know who you are, or post a notice on the public-access forum. Read "About Halfpast" and you'll get an idea of what we want from members, and what the forum might do for you.

I do not ask for donations and I've paid for the site so there is no need for membership dues. We are primarily spiritual~metaphysically oriented and offer a place for advanced ascendants, and provision for beginners as well.

I am in the process of "brokering" a shift in management that may provide a Pavlina Lifeboat for those who can't find a new forum. It is my old forum, and it is seldom used. The webmaster has expressed that he is no longer interested in the site. I'll keep people posted about the results. If I become Administrator, I would approve most anyone, and it would be up to forum members to self-moderate.

In other words, orphans could take that old house and fix it up themselves. It would require no membership fees or donations.

I recommend that Pavlina members seeking a membership here send me a PM (while the Pavlina site is still operating) and include:

.your preferred username - this might be the chance for change, with a NEW username, or feel free to use your old one.

.your e-mail address - this is mandatory on any forum and you have my assurance I do all I can to protect that information.

. a password - you can change the password once you're logged on.

Please understand we can't take everybody in, and some may be turned down. At present, we are compiling a list of those we would like to join, and this is not necessarily based on "worth" or spiritual "seniority": need is also a factor...some of our members need exactly this type of environment to heal within, in order to grow. It is quite remarkable the healing that others receive when someone shares their story and tries to work with its attendant pain. We are at once a support group and individual growth forum. There are no demands for religious or spiritual conformity: the "God of YOUR understanding" dwells here.

Pavlina members at large are welcome to post in the public-access forums, and we are quite accepting of criticisms. You are invited to remain "satelite members"...in other words, not become a member, but stay in touch by use of the public-access boards. I sincerely hope we don't incur abuses that force those boards off the forum.

I wish the PDforyou forum well, though I have a foreboding about the operation, and many of us sense an energy there that doesn't speak of longevity. It's all experiential, and we cannot know if we do not try, so blessings to the friends we have out there. As VinceG has said, we're two different neighborhoods, and everyone's free to choose where they live.

This "deal" has gone through. I need to clean up that forum to accomodate refugees. ALL are welcome to join there, but please wait until I make an official announcement. Feel free, however, to spread the word.

HALFWAY is up and running, and I'm approving registrations as quickly as possible.

Those who are turned down for the sister-site, Halfpast, are offered membership on Halfway. It is also where those on a waiting list for Halfpast will be asked to stay until openings are available.

ALL Pavlina and PDforyou members are welcome on Halfway. I'm only rejecting those who have exhibited agressive behavior, particularly during the death-throes of this forum in the past 24 hours.

Halfway is free to all, and it does not solicit donations, nor does it contain advertising. I will provide a thread for those who offer services, and expect it to be treated with dignity.

EVERYBODY MAY JOIN HALFWAY. I am pleased to thank the members from Pavlina's forum for scouting ahead and helping to set it up for new life.

Royster, I gotta be honest with you, I dont like the layout of your site at all. I like the way Pavlina forum is layed out much better. I also hate that shoutbox thingie.

Not trying to be a jerk, bro. Just giving some honest, constructive criticism

No offense taken, Frisky.

When I first arrived at Halfway, I was coming from a vBulletin forum whose format was identical to this one (Pavlina). It took quite a while to get used to it.

You actually CAN change the look on your individual account once logged in, but the forum, itself, is SMF forums and they operate differently. Changing the look only affects your view, not the forums'.

While I am Administrator, I don't know enough to change the layout, but I DO know to leave well-enough alone.

BTW, Frisky: you can close that shout box by clicking the little box with the + or - symbol in the upper corner.

There's all kinds of cool user-controls that this forum doesn't have. But THIS (Pavlina) forum is designed for high traffic and simplicity. Halfway and Halfpast take a little more focus to use, but you'll appreciate them once you learn to use them.

Okay, I'll give that a try.

Maybe I just need to warm up to the forum
