Default REP: The Amazon Wishlist

Inspired by aelle's signature. Post your Amazon Wishlist and buy something on someone else's.

This is the new REP POINTS system, for deflation.

LOL I need to update my wishlist, I think there's still stuff on there from 5 years ago that I no longer want/need. So buying something on someone else's... does that mean buy it for them or buy it for yourself? I would assume that means buy it for them... I'm game.

Of course it means buy it for them, silly!

I have lots of old stuff on mine, too, but I'm leaving most of it... not that I still want it particularly, just to keep track of stuff. The stuff I could do without at this point is the books on Nahuatl.

Ha! Awesome. If you like my posts, you may now litterally give me a chocolate.

You've got a really interesting reading list, Cochonette. Are you a linguistics student?

meh, even more to Australia. I often buy on the US based Amazon and the price is always quite high. Even worse if it's on the French Amazon (buying books for my children cost a lot, postage cost a lot and it's in Euros (my poor little Australian dollars bank account suffers when I visit Amazon France).

Tell me about it. Just bought a book from an australian author and the book is made in america. It cost me more to ship it here then to actually buy it.

What I do is buy stuff in the US or Europe, have it shipped to family there, and they forward it to me. Especially if I buy several items, and they sent it via normal post, it is way cheaper.

Takes longer and you have to have family that is willing to help... but it is a solution...

In Australia there are two I have tried: Booktopia and Mighty Ape. Booktopia is so expensive that it's worth paying for postage from the US and just get it on amazon, prices are much better and the Australian and American dollars are more or less the same. Also, Booktopia has a great range but very little in stock so it can take a while to get your order. Mighty Ape I've only used once before: good range and good prices overall (and I just got a voucher from them yesterday so I ordered again from them).

The Belgian post is expensive too if my father sends me something from amazon.fr he actually gets them to ship it to me directly. It's okay though I don't order all that regularly (more around birthdays or Christmas though).

Aren't there bookstores in Australia that can order things for you? That way they absorb the shipping...

It's possible though I' d have to see what price they ask for it. I mainly get books online/specialised shops, as my favourite ones are never in the big stores. I still reckon it' s worth paying shipping from amazon
US for the final cost (I' ve found things on Amazon US the third of the price of Booktopia, and ready to ship on top of that!).

It may not be (ETA: for paperbacks, anyway), a store like Barnes and Noble can order just about anything and sell it to you for retail price. Although, admittedly, I've never tried to order any foreign language books through them. It might be something to look into though.

Sorry for late reply!

Actually i don't often buy books from Australia! Normally a bookstore will have australian books and some other selection. But if i want specific things i can't find anywhere - amazon comes in handy because they'll likely have it and fairly cheap.

Like this book i got was $11.00. SCORE!!!!!

I thought we were moving soon, so i needed it within 2 weeks. So clicked that option, and it cost something like $17.51 as opposed to the $13.00 it would have cost if i let it get there within the month (not happenin') Either way, cost more then the bloody book. What happened to no such thing as time and distance? geez.

You can readily edit it to not include your full name. Just change both the recipient's name and the address to only include what you're fine with sharing.
