It's similar for me. If someone likes something that I like I'm much more apt to try helping them get it. For simply getting something that looks promising for a friend, I see no harm in supporting them in doing/getting something you'd also be into if they've expressed interest, such as by putting it on a wishlist. If anything it's a way of getting closer as friends, building more shared interests.

I'm fairly sure anything that's purchased is removed. At the very least it says the item has been bought.

That depends on whether or not you leave the "don't spoil my surprises" feature enabled:

"When you leave the "Don't spoil my surprises" checked, we keep any gift purchases made for you secret for several weeks. During this time, the item will continue to appear as unpurchased on your list. If you try to purchase an item that's been gifted to you already, we will warn you to protect against duplicate purchases."

openeyes, I feel silly asking this...but how do I edit it so it doesn't show my full name? I found where to edit the list settings, but it still shows it up top?

First click "see what they see" at the top of the page to be sure whether or not the full name is still given. If it is, then click "return to your view" at the top and go down and click "add your ship-to address" under wish list tips on the left side of the page. There you'll find where you can edit recipient's name and address. Change both of these to just the name you want provided. I entered a new address that was essentially first name, street address, city, state, zip. Click save, now go back and click "see what they see" again to be sure everything is correct.

That would be pretty pathetic if I started a thread about buying each other gifts from their wish lists only to start it off by buying their wish list for myself!

I actually found it flattering to think you liked anything I'd listed enough to feel like ordering a copy for yourself. It wasn't meant as anything negative at all, so I apologize if it was taken that way.

One more step some people may need:

Click "your lists" next to "your cart" at the top right of any amazon page
Click "your profile" beneath the shopping cart
Click "edit your profile", again at the top right of the page.
Click "edit name" beneath the photo and enter whatever name you want publicly known as your pen name.

Hi Marinik,

If you like "I thought it was Just Me (but isn't)", you will probably love her free videos on youtube and TED, her latest book "The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are" and the DVD "The Hustle for Worthiness"!

Awesome idea. I wasn't going to post my list, since it's so horribly out of date, but now that I take a look at it, I'm kinda amused at my over-the-last-ten-years self.

Amazon.com

I actually have three items in my Amazon shopping cart I never seem to get around to hitting "buy" on.
