Equal Opportunity at Hooters

We've all heard of instances where the law causes equality to prevail over tradition. For example, a few years back, we'd hear of many instances of women trying to vie for a spot in an all-boys military academy. Through legal battles these women were successful and eventually ended the long standing tradition and went to boot camp with everyone else. Same thing happened in Men's professional golf, I do believe a woman was successful with that as well. This is all fine, I'm all for equality.

However, what I am concerned about is that this should work both ways. We need some men to take a stand against Hooters and apply for an equal opportunity position there as a waiter. It's only fair right?? Not to mention he'd probably be the envy of all men in the US and abroad. It's an idea worth pursuing if you believe in the cause.

It's a dirty job, but somebody should go for it..

I was going to say the same thing. I'd be very happy working in the kitchen there. No need to wait tables!

I believe this was a issue in the past, I thought they had made a 'brother' chain for Hooters named Peckers. But it was a few years ago, so I could entirely be making this up!

Meh, Slamhot tried on one of my articles of clothing once. Me? 109, 5' 8". Him? 5' 10", 190. He's very nice looking, a runner/cyclist.

And far be it from me to hurt anyone's feelings...

Women will not pay to see man ass poured into hot pants. It's bad on everyone save twinks, and what would I do with those?

Also, one of the good things about living in a heterocentric, sexist society is men frequently buying the dinner. Now, if Slamhot is buying me dinner, it isn't so I can look at at other men. So between the fact I don't really care to see hairy asses packed in tight clothing and that no one would take me there, not gonna work.

it may go good for attracting some women to go to hooters---since it would be fair and there would be both waiters and waitresses there all scantily clad---maybe women wouldnt mind as much if their man went to hooters...

It's already been tried. I'm glad that the court ruled that Hooters had the right to only accept women as waitresses. I can't remember exactly what the legal reason was.

Hooters has actually lost based on gender discrimination, and as part of the settlement, they had to create support jobs that men could fill. They could still continue to hire only women as wait staff, though.

Interestingly, you can legally discriminate based on attractiveness, as long as you're not basing your judgement on any of the protected bases: gender, disability, race, etc.

Being ugly is not protected. You can legally be passed over for a job if you don't look good to the employer. Not if you're fat, though. You're not allowed to discriminate due to obesity, because it's considered a protected disability under the law.

I guess having a penis is a protected disability, too.

So, that means Hooters has to fill a quota, and thus descriminate against women in those support jobs so they could fill it with men so that they could legally have women as waitresses?

I don't know about a quota, but it looks like it's legally acceptable to have a gender qualification for a particular position as long as you also have non-gender specific positions available, too.

It's not illegal, for instance, to specify that all your topless dancers be female, as long as you're busperson/dishwasher/management jobs are open to both men and women.

In Babuji's example of the military school, that's not a private company, but a government sponsored or supported institution. You can't disallow women from a school that's receiving federal funds. When Hooters starts accepting federal tax dollars, they might have to start hiring male waitstaff, too.
