I'll take that as a wonderful compliment.

High Priest, I enjoy smoking, when I do, which is rarely, usually any variety of substances, favoring cannabis, skullcap, blue lotus, salvia, pretty much never tobacco, definitely never crack cocaine (though I did try a hit once, curiosity will be the death of me) and other various herbs.

I enjoy it because I enjoy exploring altered states of consciousness. As astronauts explore space, marine biologists the ocean's flora and fauna, archaeologists ancient ruins, I explore the many vistas of the mind.

I've tried Blue Lotus before, but mixed with vodka and juice. it was pleasant, but I didn't get too much of an altered effect, just relaxed.

I like to try everything...though I haven't tried crack either, or heroin (saving that til I'm very old and it no longer matters.)

It used to be fun, to experience life differently. Then when I was high 24/7, it was fun not to smoke. Part was due to the escape feeling I got from my default-state of life, because I had problems I did not know how to deal with at the time. Not to say it isn't still fun every now and then. I enjoy the feeling of having all my emotions exaggerated. I don't like how it feels like parts of my brain are turning off.

I'm speaking of weed.

This really hits home with me. It's like an adventure of the mind.

Blue lotus is meant as a sacramental substance consumed in proper ritualistic manner for the maximum effect. One would first purge the body of toxins which cause agitation, sluggishness or any other sort of impairment so a fast would be undertaken. Then one would enter an altered state of consciousness via dance, meditation, whatever and then finally they would smoke the blue lotus.

Good idea saving heroin until you're an old geezer (I hope you make it there with mind, body and soul intact ). I've been told by friends who use/used it that it can make all other goals seem vastly unimportant because of the relative pleasure gained. I have smoked opium though. Quite pleasant if a little disappointing as far as enlightening new perspectives goes.

I can see that about it. Now I keep a bottle of the infusion on my alter...though I've never really felt the need to use it in ritual context. Didn't mean to make it sound like I just swilled it down whilst getting pissed...that wasn't the case.

We smoked some during the day...with some slight effect too. I decided to make up the infusion that night...more from reading that it was used by ancient egyptians during ritual, and a friend had made an infusion which sounded interesting.

Yes, well I'm already terribly lazy at times. If I took heroin now, I'd never get up off the couch, or bed. (that's secretly my idea of heaven though, so, I figure, when I'm old and crusty and all my bones hurt...why not!)

I have always wanted to try opium though. I was remembering the other day when an old boyfriend brought some opium poppies home one day with intent to scrape them. He'd just lost his father though, so I figured it was probably a good time for it.

Well I mean, no need to use it in a full on ritual context (it is a nice companion for something like that though) but a context where you're in a meditative state of mind already. I think that perhaps the ancient Egyptians had some special way of using it that we haven't rediscovered

And personally I'm not a big fan of mixing different substances, at least not until I'm familiar with each substance alone. But some of the most effective visionary brews from indigenous cultures are mixes, like ayahuasca.

Opium doesn't carry as much as a risk of addiction as heroin, but if you're psychologically down or in emotional pain of any sort personally I wouldn't try it until I felt happy and secure in sober state. Then again it can be a good medicine as long as it stays in that realm. Some people just don't develop addictions like others do though.

But whoops, derailed the thread a little bit.

Thanks.

I'm not really in the "addictive personality" club though, thankfully.

It goes without saying that I wouldn't take it while I was down.

Back on track though...

Ha, when I see the question "what does smoking do TO you" my first impulse/reaction is this:

But it seems like the OP was asking what smoking does for you, which is not really the same...
