So, musically, I'm a huge Deadhead and Bob Dylan fan (to the point where I know a sickening amount of stuff about their music). However, I've really been trying to get into bluegrass and honestly, I have no idea where to start. For those of you familiar with the genre, any recommendations on albums or artists for someone getting into it for the first time? |

What? People aren't tripping over themselves to answer this question here? OK, holy, let me preface this by saying that I grew up in Missouri, surrounded by country and bluegrass music. I don't think there is a bad place to jump in, but you might find newer stuff a bit more accessible to your ear. I haven't been in it for a couple of years, but some newer artists that you might try are Nickel Creek. They are amazingly talented. Alison Krauss is also very good. J.D Crowe. The Seldom Scene. Going back a ways, Ricky Skaggs and maybe some of Vince Gill, he's an excellent picker. An amazing cross-over band that has done everything is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Old school, classic bluegrass includes Flat & Scruggs, and Bill Monroe. He is often thought of as the father of modern bluegrass. Some people have a perception based in ignorance that bluegrass is just hillbilly folk. But there are some phenomenal musicians in bluegrass, and some of the stuff they play would rival an Eddie Van Halen or Jimmi Hendrix in complexity. Well that should get you started. Go see it live! Bluegrass is great live music. The modern: YouTube - Nickel Creek in BLUEGRASS JOURNEY And the original: YouTube - Earl Scruggs And Lester Flatt - Cripple Creek |

| Blind Corn liquor Pickers - Bad Tom Smith I like the Blind Corn Liquor Pickers (lol) and Ralph Stanley. The soundtrack for "O Brother Where Art Thou" is pretty good, it has Ralph Stanley on there. |
