I wouldn't use the note. Mainly because I don't think killing fixes problems. It often perpetuates the problem.

I think I would enjoy having a Transport Instantly to Downtown L.A., Naked and Mildly Hungover at 3am Note. You know, so if someone is bugging me, I could just *poof* them and have them wake up, look around, notice their unfriendly surroundings, nudity and discomfort and wonder how the hell they got there and what they were going to do about it now. I would use it on Qaddafi, or the guy who warms up his motorcycle for 15 minutes early on Saturday mornings right outside my window. |

In my fantasy world, downtown LA would be a pleasure paradise with lots of sex, entertainment and those little wafers that are sugary and delicious. Queens would ride unicorns in the streets and drink flavored semen through frilly straws.

Hey, Andrew, I finally got around to opening my boxset and finished watching it about a day or two ago. It's definitely an awesome Anime, though I was personally disappointed with how it ended. Still, it was a great Anime. |

I wonder what would happen if somebody ate a Death Note Notebook. No, really. Think about it. It's quite the mystery, and it would surely mess with the rules. Heh, ain't no Shinigami going to get that particular book back. |

I'd sell it to the highest bidder. Most likely someone somewhere would pay me an exorbitant fee to be able to knock off their well protected nemesis. I'd also be very tempted to throw it in the fireplace. Last edited by KaleidoskopicVision; 04-03-2011 at 11:19 PM. |

Interestingly at the end I wouldn't have done anything just learn Near's name and his friends and kill them later. Plus light would already know his co-workers name. I think any ending would suck because Light has to loose but we know he is too smart for it.

If the series was going to continue from that point, I'd have rather seen Light fall as a result of having to deal with the consequences of his actions instead of having to face an L wannabe. Realistically there's no way the world would have just bent over and taken what Kira had to dish out, especially if there was reason to believe he was in Japan. With someone like that on the loose it would have put immense pressure on their government, you'd have probably seen martial law, and eventually chaos. It doesn't feel like the writer thought it through, especially considering how it actually ended. If the first major victory rightfully belonged to L, Light should have won the second time. There's some major deus ex machina behind that. Last edited by Cado; 04-04-2011 at 09:04 PM.

I have to admit, I wanted to see Light win. He simply wanted a world where crime and evil was unable to exist, although he was becoming a form of evil in the process and the power was getting to his head. In any case, I was not happy with how he lost. Near and Mello were just an excuse to me to keep the story going. |

Either way it's fascinating to watch him. I wouldn't have minded seeing a version of the story where he attained absolute victory just to see what it would be like, though it would only be compelling if it was hard won and it felt like it could really happen. Of course the premise is fantastic in itself and none of it is actually feasible, but there's a form of truth within fiction that makes one suspend disbelief and watch without criticism. For me, that was gone as soon as L died. I've noticed a lot of anime have this problem, where it gets off to a strong start and then fizzles out halfway through or right at the end. The original Full Metal Alchemist is a prime example. Loved, loved, loved that series up until the last three episodes, but then the ending left me feeling hollow and now it's hard to go back and watch the parts of it I did like. The opposite of that is Cowboy Bebop where I thought it was an okay anime until I saw the finale and then it became one of my all time favorites. Last edited by Cado; 04-04-2011 at 09:09 PM.

When watching Death Note, I was consumed by the conflict. I wanted to see L die just as much as I wanted to see him live, because the idea of being able to kill him felt like an impossibility. How could it be done? I wanted to see if Light could pull it off, but it was one of those things where it would mark the end, whereas it all just kept on going. At first, when L died, I was trying to consider all possibilities, just as his character would make you do. I was wondering if he faked his death and then faked his funeral, but it wasn't to be.

Totally agreed on the Fullmetal Alchemist bit. It was kinda veering off course towards the end and just basically fell apart at the ending. I couldn't even identify where the conflict was supposed to have ended. It was like the makers had no idea what to do without the guidence of the author's plotline.

Speaking of FMA, where it fell apart is when they brought the real world into the equation. I'd have preferred it if they kept the other side of the gate somewhat of a mystery, and if they'd played off something that was introduced much earlier in the series-namely that the Al in the armor wasn't the real Al. The fake would have sacrificed itself for Ed, Ed would have met with the real Al on the other side and returned with his limbs restored, and there would have been no way for him to bring his real brother back. It would've been gut-wrenchingly bittersweet but it would have tied everything up, there wouldn't have been room for a half-baked movie sequel, and I think it would have fit the mood of the series perfectly. The ending would have remained a little weak in other ways but given a strong emotional punch it would have compensated for its flaws. That's what separates a good story from a bad one. It's alright if you don't really care what happens early on-some stories need time to establish themselves-but if there's ever a point where care turns to "meh" or, even worse, a "COME ON!" then it has failed on a fundamental level.
