Default the NOSTALGIA thread

When people or a whole society head into uncertain times, it is not surprising for them to look back at when times were better. A time before we knew the cruel truths we face, which...incidently...head us toward uncertain times.

Back when we had...

Wax paper sandwich bags

Returnable soda bottles

Cracker Jacks

Charms lollipops...

Thumbs up

Innocence. I would love to have that again. And a carefree existence, too.

Oh...I'm not sure. We exchange innocence for knowing. These days, NDN~S, I truly would rather KNOW.

I have an Indigo mind that just doesn't forget.

Yeah, you're right, no doubt. But they were happier days. For me, at least.

Thanks for this thread, a nice excuse to dredge up old toy "friends" and remember them more clearly!

My folks got me these (or similar sets) on various 70s Christmases, fun fun fun!

Wax, yours' reminded me of
.wooden train tracks and train set

.slot cars*

.Lincoln Logs (which are NOW plastic, not wood)

I played with toy cars for years, starting at age 3-4. I stopped playing with them about three years ago .

* Not to be confused with the vehicles in Las Vegas

That's cool, I went through a series Lego renaissances in my 20s, and also indulged a few LEGO Star Wars kits when they came out (my two loves combined, if only they'd had those when I was a kid! )...

Isn't Cracker Jack something? When my Dad was young, the toys were metal, when I was young, they were plastic, and now they're pretty much paper!

Here's a wonderful website for CJ collectables. I'm going to look around some more, because I'd love to find some of the prizes I remember as a kid. I have in my possession a magnifying glass from CJ's.

Gallery of Cracker Jack Toys & Prizes - Vintage at Steve's Collectibles : Page 1

And that's just ONE website!

When there were NO McDonalds. Wait, how long ago was that?

When you'd walk to your local farm to get your dairy. I have a far away memory of being a toddler proudly carrying a tin milk can in one hand and my great-grandma's hand in the other.

When poeple grew their own vegs (this is a fashion returning).

When NOBODY LOCKED THEIR FRONT DOOR AT NIGHT. This must be my favourite one
