My boyfriend uses this GPS map on his iPhone so I was looking at it to tell him where to go, he says "do I have to turn left or right" and I had to turn the iphone around to figure out if he had to turn left or right!!! And I have to put my hands up and look for the hand that makes the "L" shape to tell left from right. Is this like you for you girls? Is this a female brain thing? Or is it like this for everyone? |

My mother is not lateralized. She is physically unable to tell her left from her right, just like colorblind people cannot tell some colors apart. Which means I wasn't taught left and right at a young age and it's not an engrained reflex in me. I need to pause a few seconds to remember which side is left (that made driving lessons fun...), or which direction to follow if I'm using a map, but I still can figure it out without having to turn the map. I also have fairly poor sense of directions. My boyfriend is the opposite. He can sense directions, and he can step out of the subway or get off a spiral staircase and tell which way is North |

I have no sense of direction whatsoever. As for maps, they upset me as I cant fathom them at all, no matter which way up they are! Also, while driving a car I find that I have to open my legs when I go round a roundabout. Does anyone else find that they have to do this? I also have to think hard about right and left sometimes. Maybe I'm just weird.. |

Spatial relations aren't my strong suit, either.... but I must say, I LOVE this "hold up the hand that makes the L" thing -- I've never heard that! I was just reading an article in this month's Psychology Today about a woman who is utterly without a sense of where she is in space. She routinely gets lost 3 blocks from her home! Pretty interesting. She became a very well-known and admired author. |

I have an unnaturally gifted sense of direction. I've been lost in the woods before and recognized a single clearing, which lead me back to the parking lot. Don't think I've ever been lost in a city before. I do come prepared though. Always bring a map |
