One of my best friends is a guy named BJ, because that's his initials, and it's a nickname he picked up early in his professorial career and he used to hang with students all the time. I also lived for a long time with a guy who had a horse named BJ who he named after a bartender in Naples, FL, named BJ, and he was fond of her. And I think I may be the only person left who calls my friend BJ BJ, as he has moved around a lot and so have his former students and people he used to hang out with who called him BJ, kind of like how on the Young & The Restless nobody ever called Chris 'Cricket' anymore except Nina.
