Default Finding something to write about

I've been mulling this one for days and I think it's now appropriate to ask questions. I very much enjoy writing, especially on these forums. I've been talking about doing some freelance writing now for months, whether it be comedy articles or informational articles. My thing is... I just can't seem to come up with anything to write about!
That might not be 100% accurate. I can usually muster up a topic... it's expanding the topic that I get lost in. So far, I haven't gotten past that point. Chances are, I'm psyching myself out here but I'm curious what other people do to get the creative juices flowing.
A fun note: this is one of those posts where I got several ideas simply by identifying the issue and writing it down. I have a program called MindNode, which is mind-mapping software. The way I've been expanding my ideas so far is to take a broad topic (finances, for instance) and break it down. Then I draw my article ideas from those chunks. What I'll try is taking the article idea and brainstorming the heck out of that.
Anyhow, ideas appreciated!

I dunno, I have the same problem. Only thing I can say is that I wrote relatively a lot, without trying hard at all, when I was doing a trial and totally concentrating on this one thing and being inspired by it. And also that I'm currently working on this issue by just trying to write more.

I need a muse or I can't write. Sometimes I get inspired by walking the dog (and I do that a lot), but usually it's tied to my muse.

That's for non-fiction, anyway. I enjoy writing about my sex life, so there's where the Pilot comes in. When it comes to fiction, I find that story ideas come to my head at the craziest times, so I keep my iphone handy and put on the microphone so I can record the stuff that oozes out of my head before I forget it.

You'll be fine, Mounds. Write about bugs again! That was pretty cool.
