Default The Dark Knight

I was just wondering do you think Batman also known as the Dark Knight is a dark worker or a light worker?
I just wanted to get this started before going to bed and forgetting it hmm I'll be back with more of a question tomorrow

Sure he is! He works for glory and honor! (^_^)

If he was lightworker he would not wear tights and have a false six-pack.. (^_^) he would most probably be unknown and totally unattractive(no cape, no tights, no false six-pack,.... )

Batman, superman, etc. is actually a depictation of wannabe America, a strong cocky nation that protects the innocent, but alas.... that is unfortunately only fiction..

OK Batman is basically a work of fiction. He is an idealistic character and therefore not governed by the Laws of Reality and as such is not subject to labels and the meanings behind them.

Ergo you couldn't define him as either because he isn't technically alive or real.

Ultimately I'd say he is somewhere in between. He has huge resources that he uses to combat crime and violence, so his focus is primarily on fear. He wages a personal war against what he percieves as evil for the greater good, but also for his own personal satisfaction. He is a being of war. If there was no crime, there would be no batman. I think he wants to be a lightworker but is too infused with fear to escape the cycle that he is an essential part of. One of the things I really like about Batman storylines is they go into his personal psychology so much. He realizes that he creates the villians, and that he may create as much harm to Gotham City as he does good.

Though he is a fictional character, his creator (or the writers of a particular incarnation of him) would be able to tell you what his intended motivation is. It's hard to say in general though, because his backstory involves him seeing his parents murdered by a mugger. He turns to fighting crime to either avenge his parents (darkworker) or to help stop something like this from happening to others and bring justice to criminals (lightworker). Different incarnations of him have portrayed him differently though, some darker some lighter. It really depends on the writers of a particular incarnation.

Fictional characters are the perfect base for our projections, personally i really enjoy relating to Batman.
Mainly it's the determination, his will. He doesn't have super powers just a complete set of character traits that make him so powerful. I like to think he's a lightworker. Working against criminals with no desire for fame or recognition, and his constant bouts he has within his head over right and wrong.

Ofcourse its like the matter of consciousness you can never really tell unless you're looking from the inside out. And even then it's hard to really know for sure.

At the same time, Bruce Wayne is often portrayed as extremely charitable who does great good to relieve the problems of Gotham.

I imagine Batman and Bruce Wayne as two personna's attempting to solve the problems in two different ways. BTW, in terms of glory and such, Batman's whole shtick is to be the dark knight and to merge in with the shadows. He prefers not to be out in hte light, at least in the Gotham universe. Here, in our universe it seems like he's out all the time because he's the main character in the story.

Batman's an anti-hero (very early on in the series he used guns and killed the criminals) who has his own personal demons to fight. As others have said, it depends on the writer what demons and how he fights them.

Is Batman a lightworker or a darkworker? I'd say he's not either specifically but he leans towards lightworking.

Robin "came out" a few years ago, too. Now we KNOW what was going on in the Batcave.

If super-heros fight crime, why is Dick Cheney still limping around?

By the way, Andrew, I think diggin' up old threads is cool.
