Default Only in America!

Ok, I was being dramatic. I want to start traveling more, and now, I have the time. When I think about traveling though, I usually think, I'd love to go to Europe, China, blah blah blah. But what about my country?! Yeah, I know right. That's exactly what I was saying.

Any suggestions to cool things that I can see in the US? I'm from New York, so please exclude that state.

Thanks in advance for your answermentations.

I'm in South Carolina atm, and it is *really* beautiful. It's right on the line between subtropical and temperate and has *a lot* to offer.
And don't go to Michigan. Ever.

(Ok, the UP is really beautiful, as are the Great Lakes and the AuSable river, but generally, Michigan is hell iced over...esp. the dead Rust Belt cities, blech)

I've been to Denver, which I really liked.

Also the Rocky Mountains near there, which I liked less because of fainting on heights..

I've also been to the bad lands (I think that's what they call them?) anyway.. .very very pretty there as well.

Yosemite Park:

And as a bonus, Bodie and Mono Lake are nearby.

All my photos, by the way.

Are you more of a nature person or a city person? I've seen gorgeous things taking a 1 month road trip in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah, and I've enjoyed California very much (+1 on Yosemite). There are so many gorgeous hikes you can take in this country. If you're a city person, traveling in the US is a bit more tricky because interesting cities just aren't close to each other! You'd have much better luck in Europe or Japan. Taking a trip across the country just for 2 days in a new city can be expensive and frustrating.
