First give a location then whatever other preferences. Thus for myself - ... I would like to be on a South Pacific atoll. Reflecting gently on the life lived and wonder at the life beyond. Friends and some excellent herbals would be nice too. |

On my 80th birthday... I'll be somewhere in a tropical location, celebrating my birthday with all my friends and family and friends of family! It will be one great party! I'll be able to look around and think how rich of experience my life has been. From very poor (at least for western standards) to very very rich! I'll be able to reflect on all the businesses that I've started and how they have helped so many people get back on their feet again. I'll be able to think back on the 50th anniversary of my husband and me being married, and smile at him But most of all, I'll be able to enjoy. To feel the love, the joy, the companionship of those around me! |

Well if I keep up the way I'm going, I'll be alone in my snug lil apartment with 10 cats because I'll STILL be single. After all, who wants a saggy, baggy 80 yr old!! I'll be glued to the television watching the price is right and other various out dated game shows....all the while wondering if anyone will be around to attend my upcoming funeral...<sighs> But seriously... I'd love to live in a quiet little cottage with a bernese mountain dog. By then I will have met my soulmate and we will be sitting in our rocking recliners holding hands watching the roaring fire.... <sighs> |

Maybe after a very full life of love and travel, I'll be sitting in the ruins of Ennis Abbey, with my husband (and what the heck, throw in some nice herbals for me too |

| County Clare, but Ennis precisely is where i met my husband, and our love was instantaneous, and it's like my spiritual being came to life strongly for the first time. I don't know exactly how, Ireland must have been a very important place in one of my lives, and meeting again with a soul I've known for ever must have been a strong combination to come into my real self. All of the West (and North West) of Ireland had a strong feel of being "my country" for some reason...i was not "discovering", but re-discovering the place. I moved there for a while, walking amongst ancient sites and hills for hours at a time just felt right. Sorry if this is a bit airy-fairy a description.

Standing at the top of a well pisted slope, all kitted up and ready to go. Still feeling fit enough to do it (ski). Enjoying the atmos. Seeing my boys (now men) with me, laughing with their families... And have a good massage booked back at the lodge to help manage the soreness. |

Go for it, kids. I become an octopusarian on the glorious 12th of July this year, and as the mate of a splendid woman for 55 years, a veteran newspaperman and pursuer of beautiful fish in beautiful places, I have a pretty fair album to think about. We would like to revisit some of the places that we loved in more than a half-century ago, places like Cap Ferrat, Venice and York, but dear old Dot's health won't let her travel anymore so we'll sit on our balcony with the dog Murphy and watch the river go by and do a lot of heavy duty remembering. Some potions related to malted barley and sugar cane may be involved. Don't fail to cherish family and friends now, for the biggest trouble with reaching 80 is that you have seen off so many who have meant so much along the way. As an ink-stained wretch I was privileged to help a little in preserving some of the wild in which, we know, lies the hope of the world. It doesn't balance all the mistakes I've made, but it's pleasant to think that I haven't consumed all that oxygen for nothing. One more bit of unasked-for advice: be kind. Cheers! |
