In context... The unmaker is essentially, war, pollution and negativity and Alvin can manipulate physical reality fully in this fantasy book. He tried to fight the unmaker but you can't fight fighting you cant war against war. So instead he brought to life (greensong is what AmerIndians hear in the former america to be one with nature) more nature and happiness and goodness and death and negativity was overcome.
