"The best martial artist of all time, who is he?"

Anyone who has managed to go through his entire life without ever having needed to fight.

The best martial artist is probably some monk hidden away in the mountains that no one will ever know about.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Helio Gracie.

Except Gracie was beaten by Masahiko Kimura.

Jackie Chan cause I love his sense of humor and amazing coreography. And he doesn't use special effects or stuntmen.. he literally dedicates his body to it and has broken every bone in his body pretty much I think... there's a documentary about his craziness on youtube.
That's what's best for me

Yes, of course, but I'm biased...if you want the best one that is alive, it would be my teacher, TK Chiba Shihan.

unarmed fighting is so contrived

humans were meant to use weapons

The best warrior depends heavily on psychological tricks, nuclear weapons, and false-flag operations. Maybe Obama? Maybe some CIA director?

My guess is some of the best fighters are in intelligence services. They have real-life experience fighting for their lives. Field agents work alone in foreign, sometimes hostile areas. They've got to be pretty darn good at defending themselves in a fight.
No field agent leaves home without a weapon. For a 1 vs. 1 fight I would definitely put my money on Mossad special forces. But they'd use their little Krav Maga concealed knives in any fight where there were no guns or explosives. They never go anywhere without their combat knives.
