I made it home today, to a very cold house with burst water pipes. It's snowing, and they expect 3-6 inches to fall. The kerosene stove AND woodstove are warming up the RatHole, and I'm about to indulge in an afternoon nap with my cat, under heavy blankets. Sigh. Good to be home, burst pipes and all. |

I put the plumbing in; I can replace it, too. I just got an e-mail from CodeNameSmiley, and she suggested letting the faucet drip. I can't do that when there's a chance of me being away for 10 days. It's well water on a Culligan purifyer system, and the constant drip would freeze in the sink, and the system would be taxed. Last edited by royster; 12-16-2010 at 07:16 PM.

This is weather-reporter roxyruby reporting in from Brisbane, Australia. Alas, there have been Summer-Storms and heavy rain in abundance. Although right now the weather is Bright, Fine, Sunny, Summery, Warm, and Hot. Yesterday there was Hail in some areas around Brisbane. The Storms are quite beautiful and entertaining to watch from a distant, but can be scary when they are right above. Infact I even sat down and watched a storm in the distance from my very own back patio. It was more entertaining than watching a movie! The lightning bolts were amazing, stunning, and beautiful. The amazing huge storm systems are also beautiful, sometimes in the distance you can see the whole edge of the storm. There has been lots of rain in Brisbane and things are very Tropical, Green, and Over-grown right now. Some garden-pruning and garden work is really in order in many locations I imagine. Going swimming, eating Ice-Blocks, and sitting out on a Verandah with Iced Tea is recommended. Last edited by roxyruby; 12-17-2010 at 01:29 AM. |

This reminds me of a story I don't think is too far OT. I go into an office on a Monday morning looking for something. The window is wide open, the office very is cold. It had been in the teens all weekend. I close the window. Of course. Why not? What could possibly go wrong. About 45 minutes later I was waiting for an elevator on the same floor. The facilities manager for the building was also waiting for an elevator. I looked to my left to see a wall of water (maybe 2 inches) coming toward me. I said to the facilities manager, LOOK! I could see endless meetings, phone calls, and paper work flash in his eyes. Priceless. The room with the open window had a water main in one of the walls. It had frozen and burst. When I closed the window, the room warmed up, the ice that had held back the water thawed and ... Flooded: two floors of offices, a restaurant, three levels of a garage.

While re-plumbing, I will create a drainage for the kitchen pipes. The rest of the system I DID drain before leaving, and it apears alright. Thanks for all the suggestions: the light bulb suggestion is the one that works. Failures always show us the way to success. RoxyRuby: THPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!

| Having just driven across the United States during a historic period of severe weather...and not experiencing any of it...the Shenandoah Valley is under serious tornado alert. It's more serious for tomorrow, but with the cold front moving in tonight, the conditions are right for tornadoes...not impossible, but rare for this area. |

It's NASTY here in the Shenandoah Valley today: the floods are subsiding, but the winds have picked up and they're cold November winds. It's feeling a LOT like "Camp Granada" around here. The Simpsons - Camp Granada - YouTube |
