Close! She's a keeshond! And the prettiest one ever, here is her daddy:

and her mommy:

And thanks for the tip! She HATES being brushed, even though it's pretty essential for her, she puts up a huge fight every time. I think I'll invest in one of those.

I've apparently maxed out my photo album quota on this forum. that might be a good thing, duhnoh.

No competition at all for fur-balls, beast. Here's the rock-n-roll cat himself. Sorta blends into the woodwork, ay?
(BTW a recue cat, and now he rescues me).

Back in MY day, "digital recording" was writing test answers on your fingers.

And a "passenger-side air bag" was your mother-in-law!

Default sorry for the off topic...

The one behind it is even more dinosaur: an air-cooled NATIONS reel-to-reel.

Nations later became Panasonic.

Yes, it works. I had it rebuilt.

The foreward one is a Sony TC-730
Sony TC-730 Owner's Instruction Manual

YouTube - Sony TC-730 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder

I'm prouda it!

Orion, my other man. He's a rescue Shetland sheepdog, about 18 months old now. We know nothing of his previous life. He's been with us since last August and we've been clicker-training with great success. He's shy and sensitive like a lot of Shelties (to the point that we suspected he had been abused, but who knows) and positive training has worked wonderfully with his personality. I think it helps that like a lot of working breeds he wants to please so! hard! And he's smart and cuddly.

Training:

Running:

Whyyyyyyy do you do this to meeeeeeeee...

When he arrived in our home he didn't know what trees, grass, birds or puddles were. We suspect he had been strictly an apartment dog, and he had development issues because of this. He had trouble climbing stairs, he was unfit, he ran into objects... I take him pretty much everywhere - hiking, climbing boulders, to the beach, swimming in lakes, walking in the city, in bars, to picnics, everywhere - and it's been amazing how much he's blossomed and developped new physical abilities.

Thanks! Your sheltie is really beautiful too, looks like a happy pup, he's lucky to have found you guys!

She is a real sweetheart, really outgoing and playful, affectionate and loving. She's still a puppy, so of course she eats everything she can find and has chewed up all my shoes, but she's still the best doggie I ever could have asked for. I can't wait until she calms down a little, though!

A Polaroid photo of Sunshine. She is laying on the carpet I just glued to the floor of a tobacco shop I built. The sliding glass doors are the humidor.
I post this because Monday I will give the picture to the owner: Steve, the original owner, died suddenly last year from an aneurysm. His widow continues to operate the store.

Not sure how this will come up...

Heh... Orion still chews on innapropriate stuff, even though he has a zillion toys and bones and pig ears and stuff. The crazy thing is that when we're at home/awake, he ONLY ever chews on his toys. He waits until we're out to destroy shoes or important work documents! So I don't know how to train him out of it. I've tried rewarding the use of appropriate toys, but with no real results. I just have to be careful to keep everything out of reach, forever.

I don't have any pics uploaded, but I have a wonderful hound dog named Bennett (who I mostly call "Mr.B"). He is a rescue, I've had him for 3 years and 7 months now, and supposedly he is about 6 now (although i suspect he may be a little older).

This was the warmest weekend we've had since October. The local dogpark is being rebuilt, so I took him to a different dogpark this weekend. It was a bit of a drive, but worth it. He got to spend about 2 hours in a wooded area playing with about 50 other dogs.

I also took him to the vet this weekend for his shot that he has to get once a month, and to refill one of his prescriptions (he's got Addinson's disease & hypthyroidism, but the medicine he's taking is very effective). He's the world's most expensive free dog! I sure am lucky to have him, he's sweet as can be. I take him to work with me, and it sure is great to be able to do that.

Is he crate-trained? I need to get a bigger crate because my baby girl outgrew her old one. She's destroyed absolutely everything, but it's so hard to stay upset with her!

Here she was at a few weeks old:

I'm sure you all recognize the pic that I changed back to. Khaos was the dog that I took with me when I left my ex-husband. I was living in an apartment and she was miserable. She missed the other german shepherd and she hated not having a yard of her own. So I brought her back to my ex and visited her when I could.

My ex moved to another state and I have not seen my Khaos in over a year. Well, she died today. Her kidneys failed. Needless to say, I am heart broken.

I hope she is in a better place and running around in doggie heaven with all the yard space she could ever want to have and many other puppies to keep her occupied.

I love you Khaos!!!

I'm sorry to hear about Khaos, shasah. It sounds like she lived a good life with people who cared for her very much. I miss my animal companions that have moved on too, but at least the good memories are still there. Still, that doesn't change that they are gone. I still wake up sometimes with the strong desire to see my cats again.

My heart goes out to you, Shasah...I know how much Khaos meant to you in your early days of breaking the chains, and how much of a joy those dogs in that very picture brought you. I remember PMing and posts about them.

If you are sensitive, the dogs' spirit is probably visiting you.

Much love and care to you, Sis.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, friends, entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank God for your pets Enjoy and take good care of them.

Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters..

We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

royster: I have heard it expressed that when your pet gives that final exhale (from euthenasia) it is a "thank you". I was fortunate that the vet came out to my property to put Sunshine "down", and indeed that last exhale expressed a punctuation to her life story that is experiencial only; words can't define it.

I started this thread for sharing our friend's antics, quirks, and special atributes. I can start it off by relaying this true story about Sunshine (who was a rescue dog BTW):

Before I knew better, I fed Sunshine canned food...Pedigree, because she refused to eat Alpo. (And hated peas...she'd lick around them and leave 'em in the bowl). They were the large cans, and I always allowed her to have the can to lick out.

One day, with no prompt or reason, she picked up one of the cans in her teeth, and stacked it on top of another one which was upright. It didn't take too much care, but she fussed until she got it right, then just walked away.

I wish i had taken a picture of those cans stacked! It was the only time she did it.
