What music do you listen too?

I am wondering what you listen too? - I love anything form the 80's upwards.

Like at the moment I am listening to 'MADNESS - House of fun'!

I love Madness What about you?

Rammstein great band! New album you said? Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da? I didn't know of this one before you mention it here. I'm more into the old stuff. What are your favorite songs?

I listen to industrial. Bands like Skinny Puppy, Wumpscut, Frontline Assembly, etc.

I enjoy the Foo Fighters myself. Did you know that on first album, David Grohl played the instruments and sang the vocals? He did on all songs but one.
Otherwise, I'm into System of a Down, Slipknot, Live, A Perfect Circle, few others... I listen to Rammstein on occasion.

I didn't know that, no! I do like rammastein on occasion also, Slipknot is a bit too heavy for me...my mind prefers lighter stuff these days...but I do like Vermillion 1&2.

Mounds 01-12-2010 09:39 PM

I think more bands should release songs like Vermillion 1 and 2. Have a heavy version and a light version. Pretty cool.
If you like lighter bands, check out Blue October as well. I like the album "Foiled" and some of their older stuff is good too.
Anyone ever do karaoke? I met my wife in a karaoke bar. Fun stuff. Just don't ever EVER sing Metallica, even if your good at it. The superfans will descend on you.

Yeah, I like the light version best. I'll keep my eye out for Blue October, thanks.

Oh I do like Within Temptation...Awesome band. I really love heavy metal bands that have a strong operatic contrast to them. Check them out. I think they're some of Norways finest!

Ilya A K 01-16-2010 11:39 AM

At the very moment it's the solo from 'Johnny .B Goode' Which is pretty awesome.
As for always, I can make a long list, but heres a few my best:
Iced Earth, Celldweller, Led Zeppelin, DDT.

Trezker 01-17-2010 05:50 AM

Hard rock/Metal, 8-bit inspired Electronics, Ethnic style modern music

Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Wolfmother, The Goddamned, Hocico, Ayreon, A.C.T, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Dunderpatrullen, Hedningarna, Jethro Tull, Plastikman, Pornophonique, The Cure, Violent Femmes

Also some music from games like Settlers 2, Command & Conquer, Maplestory, Monkey Island and of course C64 remixes.

I listen to mainly rock, especially when I'm thinking up ideas. Bands that get heavy rotatation include: Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, Doobie Brothers etc. Hmm, there's a strong 70's vibe going on there.

I Love bands that are inventive and like to evolve their style. Sparks seem to be one of the masters of this.

Been listening to a lot of Black Grape recently - love their energy.

Although I don't play myself, I love guitar music of all genres, from rock to classical to jazz, and I totally recommend the wonderful Jimmy Rosenberg - a truly amazing and talented musician.

On the way to the gym and while training, I'm a big fan of Rollins Band, Rage Against the Machine, AC/DC. Tried lifting once while listening to the Jackson Five - it didn't really work.

Late at night I like Jazz, and Classical goes down well at work. Have been known to knock out Barry Manilow tunes at karaoke.

I saw Rodrigo Y Gabriela last week - great stuff!

noitcefrep 01-18-2010 06:28 AM

I listen to a fairly diverse range of music.

-Nick Drake
-Editors
-Bjork
-The Postal Service
-Iron and Wine
-Laura Marling
-Owl City
-Josh Woodward
-Mika
-Rage against the Machine

And a ton more. I dig through youtube to discover my musical interests. The pile continues to grow.

Wait, Isn't Beardfish a short animation by that Weebl & Bob bloke?

Ximen 01-20-2010 05:03 AM

OPETH? no, not anything prior to Damnation. I like Damnation a lot but I can't even listen a second to their previous albums...

Tool check. Muse check. Red hot chili peppers is awesome. Dream theater rocks. Radio Head's stuff is mind-blowing. Some singles from System Of a Dawn. Anathema, Anekdoten and Metallica, sometimes. All in all, nice set of artists...

great. I like Johnny B. Goode from Chuck Berry. It's funny:) I used to be an Iced Earth fan and still listen to and admire Led Zeppelin (Kashmir, Stairway to heaven, whole lotta love, etc)

Not that I (or google) know of  The band is purely awesome, however!

Damnation is candy :D I started out with not liking the deep, harsh vocals of Opeth, but quickly enough discovered that it's one of the most beautiful things in the world..! It's progressive beautiful melodic death metal with a lot of acoustic and jazzy popups. You should check if you can listen a few more seconds to the Blackwater Park album :) Like, start with The Drapery Falls, it's life changing!

I don't really listen much to Metallica, but I did when I was younger and I still like quite a bit from their older albums :D

spirit4711 01-21-2010 05:39 PM

Opeth (via Steve Wilson ;)), Porcupine Tree, No Man, Anathema, V.A.S.T., Radiohead, Yes (from the 70s), Genesis (same), Pink Floyd (same), Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, 10 CC, Japan, David Sylvian, David Bowie (from the 70s), Mike Oldfield, Massive Attack, Tiesto, Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, Riverside, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Gazpacho, Pineapple Thief, to name but a few ;).

Porcupine Tree, Bowie and Massive Attack are great. My life is divided into two periods: Prior to getting acquanted with Pink Floyd and after that (Pre and Post-Pink Floyd:D) Their music literally changed my life.I have enjoyed the intricacy and intelligence of their music a lot.

Weena 01-21-2010 08:20 PM

I like classical music, and the bands and singers on top of my list would be Xavier Rudd, Tom Waits, The Eels, and Tryo.

KaleidoskopicVision 01-21-2010 08:51 PM

Currently listening to alot of the Foo Fighters and Incubus. Both excellent bands. I also like Tool and Maynard's 2 side projects (A Perfect Circle and Puscifer). The Mars Volta, Dream Theater, 311, Radiohead, 30 Seconds To Mars, I have a whole slew of favorite bands in the general 'rock n roll' area. Also like alot of older bands like the Beatles, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd... I could go on but I'd rather keep this list short.
And for anyone born during the respective band's generation, I apologize for inadvertently calling you old :D

I listen to alot of techno, rave, trance and just electronic music in general. Dubstep mixes, Trentemoller, Infected Mushroom, Aphex Twin, Delerium etc etc.

Hip hop and R&B are both awesome. Gangster rap can be really grating to my compassionate spirit and I generally avoid it. Except for Ice Cube. He plays in family movies so it's hard to take it seriously

Used to be really into heavy metal, mostly because that's what all my friends were into at the time and I wasn't exposed to much else (my mom would frequently explain how the Rolling Stones and David Bowie were the antichrist. My musical selections were limited to Christian bands or classical music when I was younger). I like classical music, but I tend to not go out of my way to listen to it.

I like some singers/pop artists like Regina Spektor, Natalie Walker, Kate Havnevik. Many guys I know are shy about admitting they like that kind of music, but I see nothing wrong with liking musical women ;)
I despise Miley Cyrus though. And her autotuned robovoice.

Plenty of bands I haven't named simply because they don't come to mind right now.

I'm a DJ and play in clubs and mostly underground parties. I still listen to and play vinyl which I'm a massive collector. I play deep and ambient house & techno sets. I'd play sets lranging between three and 12 hours (depending on the situation). I also write a blog where I review music, gigs and make DJ sets available for download, both from myself and other artists.

My latest mix 'Nonduality (Phase two)' can be listened to here for free: darren_vinylrules - Darren Allen - Nonduality (phase2) - SoundCloud

I recommend it if you want to get into a deep, chilled meditative state. (The first hour is mainly ambient and drone soundscapes)

If intrigued, you can also check out my blog :)

Oh, and I'd really recommend artists such as Vladislav Delay, William Basinski, Alva Noto, Moritz Von Oswald, King Tubby. I love deep, intricate, modern classical, drone and ambient music. For me it's always a very personal and spiritual experience to listen to and connect with music.

Andrew Gubb 01-21-2010 09:54 PM

I love sweet melodies with just the right amount of rock in them. Dido, the rasmus, the killers, muse, red hot chili peppers... seeing the pattern?

OK, the last one was superfluous, everyone likes the red hot chili peppers :D

Andrew

Opeth and Steven Wilson are a flawless mix :) Even though Steven has cooperated a lot with Opeth's records, I know at least one guitar solo Mikael Åkerfeldt had for Porcupine Tree, and it's found in the hazy, beautiful part somewhere in the end of Arriving Somewhere (But Not Here) :D

alexb5784 01-21-2010 10:32 PM

It depends...

When I'm feeling creative, I listen to 80's New Wave music. My favorite artists include The Smiths and Simple Minds.

When I need to exercise I like to listen to club music. I like artists such as Lasgo and ATB.

But most of the time I listen to Acid Jazz and Bon Jovi ;)

You know 'Time Flies' from the PT 'the Incident' CD? Very much inspired by PF, but a great song in itself. Mr. Wilson knows his heritage. ;)

Yeah, great song! I saw PT live 2 times, great concerts! Once with Anathema too! I alas missed the last tour.

If you don't know No-Man yet, do listen to that too! Magical music as well.

You should read Anthony Kiedis (from the Chilis) autobiography 'Scar tissue' ;)

You see there's something wrong here
I'm sorry if I'm not clear,
Can you stop smoking your cigar?:D

That's a great great song, though I haven't ever thought of it as PF inspired. But you've got good taste in music anyway;)
