I'd really like an animal companion. I really like animals. But my mum said it's too much of a grievance when they die.. Since then I've accepted the lie that my parents fed me, and realised that everything is temporary, including my own life, and everyone elses life. But anyway, because I've never had a pet in my life, I can't figure out which I'd like more. A cat or a dog? I got along quite well with my flatmates cat a while back. |

I had a cat and he was great. It is hard when they die, but that's the price you pay for investing in a pet. Cats can be great because they are very low maintenance. They keep themselves extremely clean, and they give you your space. They love to play and are affectionate, but they are also mysterious. They have lives of their own, they just disappear for periods of time (depending on if it's an indoor or outdoor cat), and one of the fun things is watching all the insane hiding places they can find, or the bizarre contortions they put themselves in the never-ending search for the perfect relaxing posture. Dogs are great too. But they are like having a child, they need a lot of care and attention. You can't just leave a dog alone for a day or two, he will get super depressed and destroy your pad. You need to walk them frequently, and they tend to be way more messy than cats. But, unlike cats, they don't keep their distance. If you call a dog, it will run over to you and play, a cat sometimes you have to beg to come over to you, they can't be bothered sometimes. Cats do things on their terms, dogs do things on your terms. As far as the mess, dogs can rip a house apart if they are upset. With a cat, you might walk inside and see a dead bird or mouse in the middle of the room (which is a gift for you). But if I had to choose, I'd choose a cat. |

Cats are da BEST! I don't trust anyone who doesn't like cats! Dogs are cute...but annoying and too needy...always chasing after your heel and wanting attention, they're high maintenance. Cats do they're own thing and will occasionally allow you the gift of stroking them.

I'd vote for cats as well.. I love both and as soon as we have a nicer place or a house of our own I will get a dog, but for now I'm plenty happy with my cat. Remember, dogs you'll have to walk even on Sunday morning when it is raining and you are lying in bed with your newest conquest and she wants to play as well... dog will have to go first Take care, if you want a cat that is indoors all the time that she has been indoors all the time since birth. If not, she will not be a happy cat. If you get a new cat, leave her inside for at least 6 to 8 weeks for her to know where her house is and where she gets food. If you let her out, don't forget to chip her and/or put your phone number on her collar. |

If you aren't sure, you might try Siamese cats, as they are very similar in temperment to dogs...very sociable but also with that feline elegance and grace (and you don't have to take them for walks). They are really beautiful cats too!

What I want is a serval cat (or a savannah cat, which is bigger). They're expensive and I think you have to have a license but they are awesome: YouTube - Serval cat - a tame wildcat who acted like a domestic cat They eat a lot though. $$. YouTube - Serval Jumps And Plays If you tried to play with a regular house cat like this they would claw and bite your arms off, these servals behave much more like dogs. They play fetch, which house cats won't. YouTube - F1 Savannah boy playing fetch Last edited by cylon; 12-14-2009 at 05:06 AM. |
