i can no longer watch mel gibson, even though i used to think he was a fine actor...now i think he is a rascist, hypocritical wackadoodle. tom cruise, before the couch jumping when he was more tightly wound, i over looked the scientology and appreciated his acting abilities and real life heroism....now it is really difficult, tho' i thought he was great in "tropic thunder!" brangelina, i am so bored with...i cannot seem to take anything professionally they do seriously.... there is more, but you get the picture.. anyone feel the same way, or are you more above it than i am to appreciate the thespian in these individuals? |

Why can you no longer watch these actors? Is it because you're influenced by their personal life or simply because you somehow no longer see value in their work? Many artists and men of genius were crazy, unstable, obnoxious or downright monstrous in their personal life, but their work is still valued.

I don't buy into the fake negative impressions most seem to have of people, including celebrities. I don't agree with the reasons why one wouldn't like Mel and Tom. The media is the one to fuel something that has no real merit. Someone saying or doing something while they're drunk or jumping on a couch when they're happy has no relevance on who they truly are. The fact that so many people believe these opinions is beyond ridiculous. Especially if you liked them before.

well, mel may have been drunk...but drink brings out truth sometimes. if you read more about him, his father did not believe there was a halocost. mel was born here, but to have his sons avoid draft to vietnam dad moved them to australia. mel now does well in the usa he would not fight for. tom, has tried to push his propaganda on people who have worked on his movies by doing things like offering massages by members of scientology so they talk while pampering the people. brangelina have done good for children of say africa...but when she birthed her baby, they roped off part of the coast at some resort....they enjoyed the wealth of certain areas, while removing one child from the poverty or horror of it. i guess it just seems a little hypocritical...i guess it is more like a boycott on my part, than actually judging their talents....i may watch them on cable to see what it is all about.....frankly since a lot of stuff has ensued...they all have not done anything really gripping anyway. this is just my opinion. that is what i am looking for from other posters....not criticism. |

I think you are right to "boycott" them if that's how you feel about them, and I feel the same, they really haven't done anything that gripping anyway. I wasn't criticizing, I was just asking if you still see value in their work regardless of their personal life. I personally don't really care much about anybody in Hollywood, or any "American star" for that matter.

if americans did NOT care so much about its celebrities...we'd probably be a lot better off...living our own productive lives instead of vicariously thru people that have, imo, questionable values, and certainly not the greatest role models for our youth....not all of them, but many.
