Default Suggestion

Invariably when pople list their favourite motivational music they start commenting on each others choices. While this is great for socialization and getting to know each other, it kinda undermines the usefulness of the thread at large. I suggest we keep posting here and commenting and all that jazz, but keep a clear-cut and concise list somewhere else. Is there a good web 2.0 app we could use for this? Google Spreadsheets perhaps? That way we could insantaneously orgainze everything according to artist, titles, albums and genres provided people are ready to put an extra 3 minutes into writing in the details.

How does that sound?

Here's my list:

# Eric More Morillo - I like to move it
# Bon Jovi - It's My Life
# Bon Jovi - Welcome to Wherever You Are
# Bon Jovi - Have a Nice Day
# POD - Alive
# POD - Youth of a Nation
# POD - Sleeping Awake
# James Brown - I feel good
# Wild Cherry - Play that funky music
# Guess Who - Nothing's gonna stop us now
# Stevie Wonder - True to Your Heart
# Tanz der Vampire - Overture
# Frank Sinatra - I did it My Way
# Garbage - The World is not Enough
# Michael Bolton - I can go the Distance (from Disney's Hercules)
# Michael Jackson - I'm Bad
# Sammy Davis Jr. - If They Could See Me Now
# ClawFinger - Biggest And Best
# Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Mr. Pinstripe Suit
# Lee Harding - Eye of the Tiger
# MC Hammer - You can't touch this
# Carl Orff - O Fortuna (from Carmina Burana)
# Star Wars:The Phantom Menace - Duel of the Fates
# Beethoven's 9th
# Snap - I've got the Power
# Limp Bizkit - My Way
# 2 Unlimited - Ready for this
# Elvis Presley - A little less conversation (JXL Remix)
# Guns & Roses - Mr. Brownstone
# Korn - Did my time
# Korn - Here to stay
# Smash Mouth - I get knocked down
# Smash Mouth - I'm a Believer
# Nightmare Before Christmas - Jack's Obsession
# Chester Bennington - Body Crumbles (Queen of the Damned Soundtrack)

# Jay Gordon - Slept so long (Queen of the Damned Soundtrack)
# Morrisey - Let me kiss you
# Morrisey - Irish Blood, English Heart

Wink a song

the song which i think pumps me up before a competition most is
Till I collapse - by Eminem ft Nate Dogg
yes its eminem but the song is incredibly powerful at a loud level

look at a part of its lyrics i took out
'Cause sometimes you feel tired,
feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
and just pull that **** out of you and get that motivation to not give up
and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.

Until the roof
The roof comes off
Until my legs
give out from underneath me

I will not fall,
I will stand tall,
Feels like no one could beat me.

Almost any song of The Ark is a great source for personal developement. The lyrics are all about loving yourself and feel good about that, give up the idea that everyone loves you and that if you just love yourself and act on your own path you will be respected by others. But here comes the best songs they have done...

It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane
Calleth You, Cometh I
Absolutely No Decorum
The Others
Let Your Body Deside
Echo Chamber
Father Of A Son
The Worrying Kind (if you really get the idea behind the tacky lyrics)
Deliver Us From Free Will (This song is really a hard one to get but a good song)
Ain't To Proud To Bow
Bottleneck Barbiturate
Disease
Little Dysfunk You

The list could go on...

Some ABBA-songs are also really good.

Aha - I've Been Losing You (any guy who listen to this song and are a bad boyfriend should really get the lyrics under the skin) Other songs by Aha is great too, I personally like Don't Do Me Any Favours (don't ask me why it is a really tricky one to get the meaning of in the positive way I guess)...

Lisa Marie Presley is also a good source for lyrics especially the songs about love (Nobody Noticed It is such a wonderful song)...

Ah even some old Rolling Stones songs are good, if you dig out the positive songs, not the ones with a feeling of self-destruction...

Take out the most tacky songs of Elvis Presley from the movie-years and you would find loads of lyrics that really do have a deep meaning to it, or listen to some of the songs in the 1970ies...

Fake Your Beauty - Bertine Zetlitz, is also a really good song....

Röyksopp is good...

Pink has got some good songs too...

I just read all these posts and saw like 3 other people mention Switchfoot, besides me! The same songs too! So yeah definately check those out. And i wanted to add another one,by Neil Diamond,"I'm Alive". I am not a Neil Diamond fan but David Cook did the song on American Idol last week and the lyrics totally blew me away with their positive about life-ness

I just listened to Rose of Sharyn by Killswitch Engage. The hair on my arms stood straight for most of the song. Amazing singer who mixes screaming with smooth vocals, I love it.

Some other stuff I enjoy.
Lost Horizon - Epic power metal.
Dropkick Murphys - Celtic punk
Finntroll - Finnish traditional music in metal form
Flogging Molly - Irish American celtic punk
Hedningarna - Mixes electronics and rock with elements from old Scandinavian folk music
Jethro Tull - Progressive rock
The Cure - Everyone should know and love this old band

I have a lot more but I can't sit here all day listing music. I'll finish with Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes. Really good stuff.
