Before there was paint, what did carpenters use to make sure that water/rain did not ruin the wood? I did not know where to post this thread, so I just posted it here.

Paint has been around in one form or another for more than a thousand years. Some varieties of paint were made with milk, while older washes were made with lime.

Linseed oil was used in some areas.

Linseed oil is oil pressed from flax seed, which is also called bird seed.

In some cultures people built their houses with certain hard woods which were resistant to weather conditions.

oil/pitch/resin/tar are all substances that have been used to waterproof wood
