Lightbulb Documentary Recommendations?

In recent years, I've really enjoyed documentaries.

With the explosion of video on the net, a lot of these documentaries seem to be making their way online. Here are some interesting movies (and collection of links to documentaries) that I have run across:

FRONTLINE: watch online | PBS
Human Behavior Experiments 2 of 4 - Google Video
American Pimp
Throw away your TV - Ten Top Must Watch Documentaries -Part 1
Free Movies & Documentaries (Public Domain) - Top 50

I watched "Jesus Camp" online at one point, but apparently it is not online anymore.

Can anyone make any recommendations on documentaries that I need to see?

Those look like excellent choices Kristoffer! Now I will have to find a place to buy or rent them.

As a boxing enthusiast I may be a little biased, but "When We Were Kings" is one of the best documentaries I've seen. It's a little harder to find though I see it on TV from time to time, but along the same line is "One Nation...Divisible" about the first Ali/Frazier fight considered not only one of the best fights of the 70's but one of the most socially significant:

Ali-Frazier I: One Nation... Divisible (2000) (TV)

Also check out Stacy Peralta's documentary on big wave surfers "Riding Giants"

If you have Showtime (particularly the digital cable version with the gazillion different Showtime networks) they're showing "When We Were Kings" quite a few times this week...

Showtime - Movies - When We Were Kings - Main

End of Suburbia is a good one.

Capturing the Friedmans is creepy but compelling. Same goes for Brother's Keeper.

Spellbound and Wordplay are fun. There are a slew of enjoyable docs in the "quirky people engage in geeky competition" subgenre.

Michael Moore and Morgan Spurlock are very funny if you're into political stuff. The conservative "responses" to their movies are -- not to be too partisan here -- pretty wanting for decent direction.

It could be kind of crass at times, but I always thought Insomniac had some really nice documentary qualities to it.

Nanook of the North and Man With The Movie Camera are older, but they did a lot to determine the path of modern documentary. I think they're fun to watch.

Have fun!

Default local TV

Oh yeah -- and depending on where you live, there might be a lot of good docs about local stuff on your local-access and PBS stations. We have Huell Howser here in California, and back in PA (where I'm from) we had PCN, which would offer video tours of Pennsylvania industry. They were plotless but fascinating. We also had Our Town in central PA, which consisted of locals giving tours of the places they loved in their hometowns. You may have something similar in your area.
