Default Anyone seen the movie Food Inc yet?

Food Inc has just been released here in Singapore and I'm off to watch it tomorrow. Ive watched the trailers on YouTube and it looks pretty scary. I'm hoping it will uncover some hidden facts about the food industry and motivate me even more to make better food choices. Just wondered if any of my fellow Pavlina's have viewed it yet?

Magnolia Pictures

Thanks for the reminder; I just found screening close to me. It probably doesn't have much I don't already know, since I've seen the trailers, but I glad the movie's out-- for a lot of folks it going to be shocking and a real wake up call.
It's a combo of the books"fast food Nation", "In defense of food", and the "omnivores dilemma"

I've been wanting to see it, but the closest showing is an hour away and I haven't been able to make it out there. Maybe I'll just wait for the DVD.

Ok so I saw the movie yesterday with my husband. I think the main shockers for people who don't know much about the processing of meat are the sheer size of the slaughterhouses (there are now only 13 in the US), and how the meat which is now possibly infected with E.coli is rinsed in chlorine and in some cases ammonia hydroxide. Urrggh!
The movie spends a lot of time on the corn monopoly and subsidies of the US. As well as the fact that farmers are not allowed to collect and sow their own corn seed as most corn seed is owned by 1 corporation and thus collecting it from the crop in your field is actually a patentcy breech!
Overall it isn't revelationary for someone who already has an understanding and are say readers of "food nation", but it is great for viewers such as my husband who happily chomps through burgers, sausages and food products containing corn syrup and hydrogenated oils. Carls Jnr was off the menu for him at least for last night, and he has vowed to not eat processed meat any more...we'll see.

SarahJaynee,
Thanks for the summary. You're right, I am aware of most of what the movie has to say, but I still want to see it. It's just a good reminder that I should choose carefully when I go to the grocery store.

...Also, I've been wondering why I can't find any "organic" corn on the cob. I guess it doesn't really exist??!

PS: The only way I was able to get my husband on board was to leave "Omnivore's Dilemma" in the bathroom. At least I knew he'd read it in there. Now whenever I want him to read something about food or nutrition, I just leave it in the bathroom
