Hi everyone! I know that there's a huge cult following for the Star Trek franchise, but I've never been a consumer - never seen a movie, TV show, or read a book. I know that the fans are called "Trekkies" and the great thespian Patrick Stewart was involved in several of the films, but other than that, I'm completely oblivious to this whole frenzy. I've been to Wikipedia and looked up Star Trek, and it gave me a listing of works dating back to the late 60's, and I'm just really overwhelmed by the scope of it all. Could anyone suggest a starting point to exploring this world? That Mr. Pavlina frequently makes references to Star Trek in his articles is another impetus to make at least a vague acquaintance of it. Thanks. |

For an easy introduction, I'd watch the first season and start from there: Amazon.com: Star Trek The Next Generation This is the first season with Patrick Stewart in The Next Generation. If you want to watch the originals, then go with them instead. Personally, I don't like the originals, but I loved The Next Generation. |

| "Dear Diary: Today I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of modifiers" As hinted in another thread, and for the 'Waxiest' of reasons, "The Way to Eden" is my #1 favorite episode overall (deciding on a non-humorous fave would take a good bit of reflection)... My only complaint about Star Trek is it's too "clean" for reality. (Weird, as soon as I started typing, hubby put on an original Star Trek episode upstairs.) The new Battlestar Galactica is nice and realistic. But I have been a Trekkie since the 1960s. Even when it was extremely nerdy to leave your friends playing outside and run in to watch the 6:00 episodes on WPIX in NY. Or play Star Trek at recess with your other Trekkie friends. Even when it was extremely nerdy to go to Star Trek conventions and dress up as characters. (Now Gwenyth Paltrow goes to them.... Next Gen was ok, but too clean. I think they are even with the classic Trek, IMHO. Jennifer |

You can watch the entire Star Trek original series (from the 60s) for free online, at YouTube Shows and some other places. (legally, I mean) Star Trek ranks up there on the awesome-o-meter. |

I love the original. I had a crush on Mr Chekov, wig and all. But I just watched the episode "Spock's Brain" recently and I must say, if comedy is what you are looking for, that is the episode for you. It's so badly acted, badly written and campy...I almost died laughing. Jennifer |

No! She has this "thingy" a simbian or something like that "in her" as a part of her, and as far as I can remember it was a he, but she is a very she in the part!!! Did you get this or am I still stuck in the Balkanoid thread with my sanity? Wikipedia: "Jadzia Dax is a joined Trill. Though she appears to be a young woman, Jadzia lives in symbiosis with a wise and long-lived creature, known as a symbiont, named Dax. The two share a single, conscious mind, and her personality is a blending of the characteristics of both the host and the symbiont. As such, Dax has access to all the skills and memories of the symbiont's seven previous hosts." |

I think I've seen everything. Except most of the animated series, I thought it sucked too much after seeing the first few episodes. Also I haven't seen the newest movie because I currently boycott the MAFIAA YouTube - Star Trek - TNG "Engage" |

Data is a robotic version of Spock. The old series has some sense of mysticism in the Vulcan religion and it explores human nature. The new series is just about adventures in space with somehow flat characters and plenty of useless rants. The Next Generation is useful only for foreigners who may want to learn english. But they also may use Transformers the old TV series to do that. | |
