I notice the new recruits come from further and further East; if this keeps up, pretty soon I'll be riffing on Kung Fu flicks and Ultraman/Godzilla!

Umm... It's the old word they used for "woman", now nobody uses it,it sounds rude, and it means the kind of woman who is tough, big and strong physically, not the intelligent type.

We might have been exposed to different Russians. I can hear pretty often "klasnaia baba" (means something like hot woman) and "kakaia baba!" (similar translation)

Hahaha! Where did you eat this? Sounds like a typical Indian kinda place.
Knol khol is I think a turnip? I've heard of ONE girl turn into a pod woman eating this.
And tutti fruitti(HAHAHA!!!) Is this colored bits of papaya they put into just about everything, its annoying

No restaurant, one of those convenient flat boxes with the foil packet inside! There was only one decent Indian place nearby, but they closed, and I still mourn the loss... It's strange, because our locality has a big Indian population, there's even a large temple not far from where I live!

Again, from what I'd read, knol-khol is just plain ol' kohlrabi, which is rather turnip-like

Mostly I was hoping to mess with cacheborn a bit; I don't suppose you hail from that fascinating land too?

I wonder what those temples look like, because all we have here are ANCIENT temples, with a lot of bizarre stories about how they were built. The best being about this really famous temple in Thirupathi.
Supposedly, Lord Vishnu borrowed a lot of money from this sage Parashurama so he could marry his wife Parwathi. One day,out of the blue Parashurama wants his money back!! So Lord Vishnu came down to earth incarnated as a certain Srinivasa and then...Wo I don't remember what happens after that, but he freezes into stone and THAT is where the famous temple of Thirupathi is built, which gets about 50 thousand piligrims each day. Ugh I suck at telling stories
I once walked 16 km to get there waited for 7 hours in line and could see the idol for like 2 seconds LITERALLY, no joke. Its like you get there FINALLY...and you go "Hey, there it ...WHOOOPS!!!" You get pushed. They appoint guards there just to PUSH people

You can try to stop them with your seductive looks maybe

Hey, I'm just happy and blessed that you're telling me at all! BTW, remind me to hit you with my "where in the world did I get Panchak from?" story sometime Or you can just do a search on that word, and find at least one or two threads by me on the subject...

You're saying I should mosey on down to the temple and just smile sweetly at the first important-looking woman I see? Instant tour guide? BTW, I wish the SSVT folks would do everyone's-welcome food/music festivals like the Greek Orthodox church next door...

Froggy, you are confusing me. Did you say "kloobknee'ka"? like a strawberry?lol Since you started talking russian here,it's always a new fun challenge for me to take the right guess. Melon is дыня. I'm not sure how to explain in english the second letter, well, probably something like"deenya",but ee sounds rougher.
Here,I found someone's post about this letter:

"Regarding "-ы", this is a bit of a linguistic curiosity, which both native speakers and foreign learners don't focus on. Most foreigners are taught that this letter is actually pronounced like English "-wi", or even like a Turkish "ı". But if you ask most Russians they will tell you that's not correct at all; it's just a simple "i" sound that doesn't palatalize the preceeding consonant."

No, it's the secret symbol for the "zh" in words like khruzhy and whuzhny!

I've never been there, and I'm not one to go poking my head randomly in someone's place of worship It's why I keep dreaming someday I'll see a big banner by the road that says, "Welcome to ChapatiFest 2010!!!"
